"But I am brave!" said Leo.The First Element: The Whispering StreamLeo packed a small bag with dried berries and set off toward the dark forest. As he walked, the trees grew tall and thick. He felt a little scared, but he remembered Nana's words.Suddenly, he heard a sad noise. Sshhh... sshhh...
It was the Whispering Stream, but it was almost dry. The water was blocked by a large, grumpy boulder.
"Please, Mr. Boulder, could you move?" asked Leo politely.
"No! I am sitting here, and I am not moving!" grumbled the boulder.Leo didn't roar. He thought. Then he saw a family of busy beavers nearby. "Mr. Beaver," Leo asked, "If you help me divert the water behind the boulder, will it not make the water flow faster and feel nicer?"
The beavers loved this idea! They worked together to make a new path for the water. The stream rushed past, happy again, and washed the boulder away. The stream gleamed and gave Leo a tiny, sparkling pebble—The Element of Water. The Second Element: The Singing MountainNext, Leo had to climb the high Singing Mountain. The air was thin, and the wind blew hard. Whoosh! Whoosh!
At the top, he found a giant eagle with a broken wing. The eagle was sad and cold.
"Do not worry," said Leo. He used his soft lion fur to wrap the wing and sat beside the eagle all night, sharing his warmth.In the morning, the eagle was healed. "Thank you, small lion," said the eagle. "You have the warmest heart." The eagle plucked a feather that glowed like sunlight and gave it to Leo—The Element of Air.The Third Element: The Echoing CaveFinally, Leo reached the Echoing Cave, where the last element was hidden. It was dark, and Leo heard a voice call out, "I will only give you the element if you tell me your loudest roar!"Leo was scared. His roar was not loud. But he thought about his home, his grandmother, and the droopy flowers. He took a deep breath, and instead of a "meep," he didn't roar, but he shouted in a brave voice, "I am Leo, and I am brave for my friends!" The cave began to shine brightly. The voice laughed, "Bravery is not in the noise, but in the heart!" A small, warm flame appeared in his hand—The Element of Fire.The Return to the WoodsWith the Pebble, Feather, and Flame, Leo hurried back to the center of the Whispering Woods. He placed them on the old pedestal.
