MY FIRST SCHOOL DAY

The Night Before and The Sunny Morning

The night before was filled with restless sleep. My new school uniform hung on the wardrobe door like a suit of armor, stiff and unfamiliar. My school bag was packed with sharpened pencils and brand-new notebooks, yet I couldn't shake the butterflies in my stomach. The day had finally arrived—the day I would leave behind the comfort of home and join the "big kids."

The morning was surprisingly sunny. My mother woke me up early, encouraging me to get ready quickly. Putting on the uniform felt like changing into a new persona. I was no longer just a little child; I was a student. My parents held my hands firmly as we walked towards the big iron gates of the school, which seemed much larger than I remembered during the admission process.

A Sea of Strangers and the Big Gate

Approaching the school, the scene was chaotic yet organized. Many children were there, some walking confidently, others crying and clinging to their parents' legs. I saw a few kids, looking just as nervous as I was, holding their parents' hands tightly. The school building was a grand, two-storey structure with colorful windows that, at the time, appeared quite formidable.

My mother gave me a tight hug at the gate, telling me I would have a wonderful day, which helped calm my nerves just a little. Walking through the crowded corridor, I looked for my classroom, which was clearly marked on a piece of paper my father was carrying.

Entering the Classroom

My classroom was a small, bright, and airy room, filled with colorful posters of animals, alphabets, and numbers. The desks were arranged in neat rows, but they seemed massive, designed for much taller people. A kind-looking teacher with a warm smile welcomed us at the door, making me feel slightly more comfortable.

The teacher introduced herself, and then instructed us to sit on the mats, where I found myself next to a girl with bright red ribbons in her hair. The classroom felt very safe, and seeing other children colouring made me feel less alone.

The First Friend and Fun Activities

After the parents left, the class teacher, Ms. Sharma, had us stand up one by one to introduce ourselves. I stood up and nervously shared my name. The teacher smiled and encouraged everyone to clap for me.

The first day was not about heavy books or hard lessons, but rather about learning to interact with others. We did many fun activities, such as drawing and coloring, which was my favorite part. My new friend with the red ribbons, who I learned was named Riya, helped me when I couldn't find my red crayon. During the break time, we sat together, shared our snacks, and giggled about something funny a boy named Rahul had said.

Lunch Break and the End of the Day

Lunchtime was a highlight. The loud, joyous atmosphere in the playground was contagious, and I quickly overcame my shyness to join the games. By the time the school bell rang, indicating it was time to go home, I didn't want to leave.

My mother was waiting at the gate, looking anxious. She immediately asked, "How was it?" My answer was an excited, non-stop description of the colourful classroom, the kind teacher, and my new friend, Riya. Looking back, that first day was the first big step into the world of learning, changing my fear into a cherished memory.
