Chapter 4 - Chapter 3: Hidden Efforts

That night, I couldn't sleep. My body ached from training, and my mind… well, it was stuck on Li Tianlong. That cold, untouchable presence. That brief warmth when he held me after I stumbled. That impossible way he made me feel… alive and terrified at the same time.

I got up quietly and slipped outside. The courtyard was bathed in pale moonlight, mist curling around the floating mountains like spirits. I wasn't supposed to train alone this late, but I didn't care.

"Alright, Han Qingyu," I muttered to myself. "If I'm going to survive… and… you know… maybe not embarrass myself in front of him again, I have to get stronger. Fast."

I focused, recalling every movement I'd seen Li Tianlong make. Every flick of his wrist, every shift of his stance. I mimicked them, slowly at first, then with more force. Sparks of spiritual energy danced around my hands, wobbling but staying intact.

I didn't notice the shadow until a cool presence hovered behind me.

"Practicing at this hour?" Li Tianlong's voice was quiet, smooth, and impossibly close.

I froze. My hands tensed, sparks flying wildly. "I—I… I just wanted to get stronger!"

He didn't scold me. Didn't even move closer. He just watched, his sharp eyes calm and calculating, as if reading my very soul.

"You're… persistent," he said finally, his voice low, almost teasing.

I swallowed hard, cheeks burning. "I… have to keep up with… you." Stupid words. Why did I even say that?

For a moment, his expression didn't change. Then, almost imperceptibly, a corner of his mouth lifted—a ghost of a smile. Not warm. Not inviting. Just… acknowledging.

That was enough to make my heart pound like crazy.

"You'll need more than persistence," he said, stepping back into the shadows, "but… keep trying. You might surprise me yet."

And just like that, he was gone.

I sank to the ground, hands shaking—not from exhaustion, but from the way my chest felt after hearing him speak.

I didn't realize it yet, but I had started something I couldn't stop. A dangerous, exhilarating obsession with the cold, untouchable cultivator who had no idea how much of an effect he had on me.

And maybe… that was exactly how it was supposed to begin.

A Glimpse Behind the Ice

The next day, I found myself wandering through the cliffs above the training grounds. The sun was low, painting the floating mountains in gold and rose. I wasn't supposed to be here—honestly, I didn't care.

I wanted to see him again. Li Tianlong. That untouchable, impossible man.

I crept closer to the place where I thought he might be training alone, hiding behind a rock. My heart pounded. Don't get caught. Don't embarrass yourself. Just… watch.

And then I saw him. Li Tianlong, alone, standing by a waterfall that seemed to flow from the sky itself. His robes were drenched, clinging slightly to his form, but it wasn't that that made my breath hitch. It was the way he moved, relaxed, almost… human. Not the perfect, untouchable cultivator everyone feared. Just… him.

He closed his eyes, letting the water hit his face, and I realized he was humming softly. A quiet, almost childish tune. My chest tightened.

He wasn't cold here. Not completely or untouchable.

I swallowed, my hands trembling. He's… beautiful. And vulnerable. And… mine? The thought shocked me. I didn't even know why it mattered, but it did. Somehow, it mattered more than survival, more than cultivation.

Then, a branch snapped under my foot.

His eyes shot open instantly. Sharp, piercing, cold. But for a moment, I saw something else flicker there—surprise. Recognition. Not annoyance. Not anger.

"Han Qingyu," he said quietly, the words cutting through the roar of the waterfall. "Why are you here?"

I froze. "I—I… I was just… passing by?" Terrible lie. My face burned hotter than the sun.

He didn't move closer. Didn't smile. Just watched me carefully, the coldness back in his gaze, but… somehow, I felt like he wasn't entirely untouchable anymore to me.

"Be careful," he said softly, almost a warning—and maybe a challenge. "Some things… shouldn't be watched."

And just like that, he turned, letting the waterfall's mist swallow him, leaving me breathless, heart racing, and utterly obsessed.

I sank to the ground, staring after him. He's dangerous. He's cold. He's untouchable. And I… want him anyway.

The slow burn wasn't just starting. It's igniting. Yeah.
