Chapter 2 - THE SEED OF DETERMINATION

In a small village surrounded by green fields and tall mountains, there lived a poor farmer named Raghav. He lived in a small mud house with his wife and young son, Arjun. Life was not easy for them. Every year Raghav worked hard on his land, but sometimes the rains failed and sometimes pests destroyed the crops. Yet, Raghav never complained. He always believed that hard work and patience would one day bring success.

One summer, the village faced a terrible drought. The rivers dried up, wells became empty, and crops started dying in the fields. Many farmers lost hope. Some even left the village in search of work in the city.

Raghav was worried too. His field had cracked soil, and the tiny plants he had planted were slowly drying up. One evening, Arjun saw his father sitting quietly near the field.

"Father," Arjun asked softly, "Why do you still go to the field every day? There is no water. The plants will die."

Raghav smiled gently and said, "Son, a farmer's duty is to take care of his field. Even if there is little hope, we must continue our efforts. Sometimes life surprises those who don't give up."

Arjun did not fully understand his father's words, but he admired his determination.

The next morning, Raghav started digging a small canal from a distant pond to his field. The pond was nearly half a kilometer away. The work was difficult under the hot sun. His hands became rough and his body tired, but he kept digging.

Many villagers laughed at him.

"Why waste your energy, Raghav?" one man said. "The pond is too far. You cannot bring water from there."

Another farmer added, "It is impossible. Better leave the village and find another job."

But Raghav simply replied, "Maybe it is difficult, but not impossible."

Day after day, he continued digging the canal. Arjun watched his father working tirelessly and decided to help him after school. Slowly, the small canal started extending toward the pond.

After several days, a few villagers noticed their effort. Some began to respect Raghav's determination. One old man said, "This farmer has courage. Instead of complaining, he is trying to find a solution."

Nearly two weeks later, Raghav finally connected the canal to the pond. Slowly, water began flowing through the narrow path toward his field. It was not a large amount of water, but it was enough to save the crops.

When the villagers saw water flowing into Raghav's field, they were shocked.

"How did he do it?" they wondered.

The crops in Raghav's field began to grow green again while many other fields remained dry. Soon, some villagers asked Raghav to teach them how to dig similar canals.

Raghav happily helped them. Together, the villagers dug more canals connecting the pond to different fields. Slowly, the entire village started receiving water.

Months later, when harvest season arrived, Raghav's field produced a healthy crop of grains. The other farmers also harvested good crops because of the canals.

The village headman called everyone for a gathering. In front of all the villagers, he said, "Raghav has taught us an important lesson. When we face problems, we should not lose hope. Instead, we must work hard and find solutions."

The villagers applauded loudly.

Arjun looked proudly at his father. That night he asked, "Father, did you ever feel like giving up?"

Raghav smiled and replied, "Of course, I felt tired and worried. But whenever I felt like quitting, I remembered that every big change begins with a small effort. Just like a tiny seed grows into a big tree."

Years passed, and Arjun grew into a hardworking young man. He never forgot his father's lesson. Whenever he faced difficulties in life, he remembered the canal his father had dug with determination.

The story of Raghav spread to nearby villages. People admired his patience, courage, and willingness to help others.

And the villagers often told their children:

"Success does not always come from strength or luck. Sometimes, it comes from simple determination — the courage to keep digging even when others say it is impossible."

Moral: Never give up in difficult situations. Determination and hard work can turn even the smallest hope into success.
