Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 3: The Hidden Basement

Lucas walked toward the old History Building with calm, steady steps, but inside his mind he was already analyzing the situation carefully. The system's hidden quest had pointed him toward a sealed chamber beneath the building, which meant there was a strong chance that something supernatural was hidden there.

Considering he had just arrived in the world of The Order, Lucas knew he had to be cautious. Even though he possessed knowledge from watching the show in his previous life, the existence of the system meant the future might not unfold exactly the same way.

Still, one thing was certain.

If the system was offering a rare skill as a reward, the opportunity was too valuable to ignore.

The History Building itself looked older than most of the other structures on campus. Its stone walls were covered with ivy, and tall windows reflected the bright afternoon sunlight. Students walked in and out of the main entrance, completely unaware that something unusual might be hidden beneath the building.

Lucas stepped inside and quietly looked around.

The interior was filled with rows of bookshelves and study tables where students were reading or typing on laptops. Everything looked normal, but the system notification in his mind told him the entrance to the hidden chamber had to be somewhere nearby.

Lucas slowly walked through the building, pretending to browse the shelves while carefully observing the layout. After a few minutes, he noticed a narrow hallway near the back of the building that most students seemed to ignore.

At the end of the hallway was a simple door labeled "Storage."

Lucas stopped in front of it and glanced around briefly.

No one was paying attention.

He opened the door and stepped inside.

The room beyond was small and dimly lit, filled with dusty boxes and old cabinets. At first glance, it looked exactly like an ordinary storage room.

But then the system appeared again.

[Hidden Quest Location Confirmed]

Hidden Chamber Detected

Entrance: Basement Passage

Lucas's eyes scanned the room again, this time more carefully. After a few seconds he noticed something strange near the floor behind one of the cabinets.

A narrow stone staircase descended into darkness.

"So that's the entrance," he muttered.

Without hesitation, Lucas moved the cabinet aside and stepped onto the staircase. The air immediately became colder as he descended, and the faint smell of damp stone filled the narrow passage.

The staircase seemed much longer than it should have been for a normal basement.

By the time Lucas reached the bottom, the sounds of the university above had completely disappeared.

He stepped into a wide underground chamber lit only by faint blue symbols glowing on the walls.

Lucas's eyes widened slightly.

Magical runes.

Even though he had never seen real magic before, he instinctively recognized that the symbols etched into the stone were part of an ancient ritual circle.

"This place definitely isn't normal," he whispered.

The chamber looked abandoned, but something about the atmosphere felt wrong. The glowing runes pulsed slowly, as if they were still active after many years.

Lucas took another cautious step forward.

Then the system suddenly appeared again.

[Dungeon Discovered]

Location: Sealed Ritual Chamber

Rank: E

Recommended Level: 3+

Objective: Defeat the Guardian

Lucas frowned slightly.

"Guardian?"

As if responding to his words, the ground near the center of the chamber suddenly trembled.

Cracks spread across the stone floor, and a faint growling sound echoed through the underground room.

Lucas immediately stepped back.

A dark shape slowly emerged from the center of the ritual circle, its form made from swirling shadows and fragments of broken bone. The creature stood almost two meters tall, with glowing red eyes and long claw-like fingers.

[Monster Detected]

Ritual Guardian

Rank: E

Lucas stared at the creature calmly.

In his previous life, seeing something like this would have terrified him.

But now things were different.

He had a system.

And this was his first real battle.

The Ritual Guardian let out a low roar before lunging forward with surprising speed.

Lucas reacted instantly, stepping to the side as the creature's claws slashed through the air where he had been standing a moment earlier. The attack smashed into the stone floor, leaving deep marks in the rock.

"Strong," Lucas muttered.

Even though the creature was only an E-rank monster, its physical strength was clearly far beyond that of a normal human.

Lucas quickly opened his system window.

STATUS

Mana: 40

"I definitely can't win this with brute force," Lucas said quietly.

Fortunately, the system had already given him a reward earlier.

The Beginner Spell Scroll.

Lucas opened his inventory and focused on the scroll. The moment he selected it, the glowing parchment appeared in his hand.

[Item Used]

Skill Acquired: Mana Bolt

A sudden wave of knowledge filled Lucas's mind as the spell information integrated with his thoughts. Instinctively, he understood how to control the mana inside his body.

The Ritual Guardian charged again.

Lucas raised his hand.

"Mana Bolt."

A bright sphere of blue energy formed in his palm before shooting forward like a bullet.

The projectile struck the creature's chest with a sharp explosion, forcing it to stumble backward.

Lucas's eyes lit up.

"So that's how magic feels."

The creature roared angrily and attacked again, but this time Lucas was ready. He moved more confidently now, dodging the monster's claws while launching another Mana Bolt.

The second attack struck the creature's shoulder, cracking the shadowy armor covering its body.

"Looks like you're not invincible," Lucas said calmly.

The battle continued for several minutes.

Each time Lucas used Mana Bolt, his control over the spell improved slightly. The creature was strong, but it relied entirely on brute force, which made its attacks predictable.

Finally, after another precise blast of energy struck its core, the Ritual Guardian let out one last roar before collapsing into fragments of shadow that slowly dissolved into the air.

The chamber became silent again.

Then the system appeared.

[Dungeon Cleared]

You have defeated the Ritual Guardian

Another notification appeared immediately after.

[Level Up]

Level 2 → Level 3

Lucas exhaled slowly while looking at the glowing messages.

"That was easier than expected."

But before he could relax, another system notification appeared.

[Hidden Quest Completed]

Reward: Rare Skill

Lucas's eyes sharpened slightly.

A rare skill this early could become extremely valuable.

The system window flashed again.

[Skill Acquired]

Mana Sense

A strange new sensation spread through Lucas's mind as the skill activated. Suddenly he could feel faint currents of magical energy flowing through the underground chamber and even beyond the stone walls.

Lucas slowly smiled.

"So this is the beginning."

He looked toward the staircase leading back to the university above.

Belgrave University still looked like a normal campus to most students.

But now Lucas knew the truth.

Hidden beneath the surface of The Order was a world filled with magic, danger, and endless opportunities to grow stronger.

And this time, he was going to conquer it.
