Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 – Closer Than Ever

The rain had finally stopped, leaving the streets wet and shiny under the morning sun.

Adam and Lina had taken refuge in a small, abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city. The sound of distant sirens reminded Adam that the attackers were still out there, looking for him.

Lina sat quietly on a crate, watching him move around the room, checking the makeshift defenses he had set up.

"You've been… hiding this from everyone?" she asked softly.

Adam stopped and looked at her. His eyes, usually cold and guarded, softened slightly.

"I had no choice," he said. "If the wrong people knew who I was… they would have destroyed everything—my family, my life, everyone I cared about."

Lina nodded, trying to understand. She had always sensed that Adam was different, but the truth was more than she could have imagined.

"You're… not just a waiter," she whispered.

Adam let out a small, bitter laugh. "No. I'm far from it."

There was a long pause. The danger outside was still real, but inside that quiet warehouse, something shifted between them.

Lina stood up and stepped closer. "I don't care about all that," she said. "I just… I want to be with you, Adam. Whatever this is, whatever your past holds."

Adam felt a warmth in his chest he hadn't felt in years. He had been running from everything—power, wealth, danger—but here, with her, it all seemed… possible.

Before he could respond, a faint noise came from the entrance—a shadow moving just beyond the doorway.

Adam's eyes narrowed. He grabbed a metal pipe, ready to confront whoever it was.

The figure stepped into the light. It was not one of the attackers.

A woman, elegant and mysterious, with a knowing smile.

"You're harder to find than I thought," she said.

Adam froze. Lina looked at her with curiosity and caution.

"Who are you?" Adam demanded.

The woman bowed slightly. "Let's just say… I'm someone who can help. But you'll need to trust me. Completely."

Adam's heart raced. Allies were rare in his world—but sometimes, the right ally could mean the difference between survival and total disaster.

And deep down, he knew… his life was about to become even more dangerous.
