Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Whispering Void and the Forgotten Exile

The world beyond Oakhaven was not as Ashura remembered. The air was colder, heavier, and reeked of ancient, buried secrets. He walked through the Silent Ravine, a place so cursed that even the moonlight seemed to bend away from its jagged floor. Behind him, the thick smoke of his burning village rose into the sky—a dark, funeral pillar marking the death of the boy he once was.

Ashura stumbled, his breath coming in ragged, painful gasps. The 'Shard of the Void' embedded in his chest was pulsing like a second heart, but it was hungry—insatiably so. Every time he tapped into its power, it demanded a price. The black veins on his skin weren't just marks; they were roots, digging deeper into his very soul, attempting to erase the last flickers of Ashura and leave only the hollow Monarch.

"Shut up..." Ashura growled, clutching his chest as cold sweat poured down his face. "I decide... who I am. Not a stone."

"Do you?" a voice echoed through the ravine. It wasn't a whisper of the wind or a trick of his fractured mind. It was a physical sound, dry as ancient parchment and cold as a winter grave.

Ashura spun around, his instincts screaming. In a flash, he summoned a jagged blade of shadow in his hand. "Who's there? Show yourself before I turn this ravine into your tomb!"

From the suffocating darkness of a nearby cave, a figure emerged. It wasn't an Imperial Knight or a village elder. It was an old man, so skeletal he looked like a corpse draped in rotting rags. His eyes were covered by a tattered, blood-stained blindfold, but he moved with a terrifying, silent grace.

"A Shard of the Void," the old man muttered, sniffing the air with a twisted grin. "It's been four hundred years since I smelled that beautiful, rotting scent. The Empire calls it a curse. I call it... the only truth in a world of lies."

Ashura didn't lower his guard. The shadow-blade in his hand hissed. "You know what this is? Who the hell are you?"

The old man chuckled, a sound like dry leaves skittering over stone. "I am Malakor, the man the Sun Throne tried to forget. I was once their Greatest Inquisitor, until I realized that the 'Light' they worship is just a mask for their insatiable greed. So, I chose the Dark. And in return, they plucked out my eyes and threw me here to rot."

Malakor turned his blindfolded head toward Ashura. "You have the power of a god, boy, but the control of a frightened child. If you keep using that stone like a blunt club, it will devour your mind before you even reach the Imperial Gates."

Ashura's shadow-blade flickered and died. He felt the weight of the old man's words. his head was pounding, and the voices within the void were getting louder, screaming for him to slaughter everything that breathed.

"Teach me," Ashura said, his voice dropping to a low, desperate whisper. "Teach me how to make this power obey me. I have a world to burn, and I can't do it if I'm a mindless beast."

Malakor smiled, revealing teeth filed into sharp points. "The Void doesn't obey, Ashura. It assimilates. To rule the darkness, you must first let it kill the boy you once were. You want vengeance? Vengeance is for the weak. A Monarch doesn't seek revenge; he seeks Correction."

The old man gestured toward the yawning maw of the cavern. "Inside, there is a nest of Shadow Crawlers. Rank 4 beasts born from the filth of the ravine. Go in. Don't use your hands. Don't use your eyes. Use the Shard to 'feel' their hunger, and make it your own."

Ashura looked at the dark entrance. He could hear the clicking of mandibles and the slithering of a hundred cold, chitinous bodies.

"If you survive," Malakor added, his voice fading into the shadows, "I'll show you how to forge a weapon that can cut through the Sun itself. If you die... well, the Void will simply find a better host."

Ashura didn't hesitate. He stepped into the darkness, the black veins on his face glowing with a cold, predatory violet light.

Inside the cave, a pair of glowing red eyes snapped open. Then another. And another. A hundred hungry beasts lunged at the boy with the black heart. Ashura stood still, closing his eyes. He didn't see the monsters; he felt their life force—flickering little candles in a vast, dark ocean. He reached out with his mind, and for the first time, he didn't command the shadows. He became them.

"Correction..." Ashura whispered.

The cave exploded in a symphony of tearing flesh and black ichor. The massacre had begun, but this time, it was silent. It was professional. It was the birth of a King.
