Chapter 1 - The Caged Wolf

The metallic scent of silver and blood was suffocating, a heavy veil that clung to the damp, mossy walls of the dungeon. I lay huddled in the corner of my iron cage, my fingers trembling as they traced the cold, etched bars that hummed with a faint, painful magic. Every inch of my body ached, a brutal reminder of the night my world ended in fire and screams. My pack was gone. My family was ash. All because of the man who stood just outside the heavy steel doors, waiting for the smoke to clear.

Alpha Fenris. They called him the "God of War," a beast who didn't know the meaning of mercy, a man whose name was whispered like a curse across the northern territories.

Suddenly, the silence was shattered. The heavy doors groaned open on rusted hinges, and the air in the room shifted instantly. It turned thick, charged with a presence so dominant it made my skin crawl and my breath hitch in my throat. I didn't need to look up to know he was there. The very shadows seemed to bow as he stepped into the flickering torchlight, his silhouette looming like a mountain.

Mate.

The word echoed in my mind like a thunderclap, unbidden and terrifying. I squeezed my eyes shut, praying I was wrong, praying my wolf was lying to me. The Moon Goddess couldn't be this cruel. The man who slaughtered my kin, who burned my home to the ground, could not be the other half of my soul. It was a twisted joke, a curse from the heavens.

Heavy combat boots clicked against the stone floor, the sound echoing through the hollow dungeon like a death knell. He stopped inches from my cage. I forced myself to look up, meeting eyes the color of molten gold—piercing, cold, and dangerously beautiful. Fenris was a titan of a man, his shoulders broad enough to block out the light, his chest scarred from a hundred battles. A jagged mark ran down his jaw, but it only added to his raw, lethal magnetism.

"So," he rumbled, his voice a low, guttural growl that vibrated through the floorboards and deep into my chest. "The last survivor of the Silver-Moon pack. The little wolf who refused to die."

"Just kill me and get it over with," I spat, though my voice cracked with exhaustion. I wanted to sound brave, but I sounded like a wounded animal backed into a corner.

Fenris didn't move. He simply stared, his gaze sweeping over my tattered clothes and the bruises on my arms. Then, he reached through the bars. His large, calloused hand gripped my chin, forcing me to face him. The moment his skin touched mine, a jolt of raw, electric fire surged through my veins, a heat so intense it nearly made me scream.

He felt it too. I saw the flash of recognition in his eyes. His pupils dilated until the gold was almost swallowed by black, his nostrils flaring as he took in my scent—wild lilies and rain.

"Kill you?" He leaned in close, his face just inches from mine. His scent—smoky cedar, dark chocolate, and the metallic tang of power—filled my lungs, making my head spin. "No, little wolf. Death is too easy. I've been searching for you for a very long time, and now that I have you... I'm never letting go."

He turned to his guards, his voice turning into sharp ice. "Unlock the cage. Now."

"Alpha, she is dangerous—" one of the guards started, but Fenris silenced him with a single look that could have killed.

"She is mine," Fenris growled, the command in his voice making the guards flinch. "Take her to my private chambers. Bathe her. Feed her. If a single hair on her head is harmed by anyone in this castle, I will burn this entire territory to the ground with you inside it. Do I make myself clear?"

As they dragged me out of the cage, my legs felt like lead. I wasn't just his prisoner anymore. I was his destiny, his Luna, and his greatest weakness. But as I looked back at those golden eyes, I made a silent vow: I would die before I ever called him 'Alpha'
