Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: the man who called me Sarah (nightmare)

The rain poured relentlessly against the windshield.

Water streamed down the glass so heavily that Elena could barely see the road ahead. The windshield wipers moved back and forth quickly, but even they struggled against the storm.

Inside the car, everything felt suffocating.

Her hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, her fingers trembling.

The words Adrian had spoken replayed endlessly in her mind.

I never loved you.

I only dated you to stay close to Rachel.

Each memory felt like a knife twisting deeper into her chest.

For years she had believed Adrian was the one person who understood her silence. The one person who saw her as more than the quiet girl everyone pitied.

But tonight she had learned the truth.

He had never loved her.

Everything had been a lie.

Tears blurred Elena's vision, but she refused to slow down.

The road stretched ahead in dark, winding curves through the mountains.

She didn't notice the warning signs.

She didn't notice the sharp turn approaching.

Her mind was drowning in pain.

Then suddenly—

The car lurched violently.

Elena gasped.

The front tire had struck a deep ditch on the side of the road.

The steering wheel jerked violently in her hands.

The car skidded across the wet asphalt.

"—!"

Her heart slammed against her chest as the vehicle spun sideways.

The tires screeched.

The car slammed into the edge of the cliff.

For a split second, everything became silent.

Then the ground beneath the car gave way.

The vehicle tipped forward.

And plunged into the darkness.

Elena's body was thrown forward as the car rolled down the steep slope.

Metal scraped against rock.

Glass shattered around her.

The world spun wildly.

Pain shot through her body.

Then—

Everything went black.

The first thing Elena felt when she woke up was pain.

A dull ache spread through her entire body.

Her head throbbed heavily, and her limbs felt strangely weak.

Slowly, she opened her eyes.

Bright light flooded her vision.

For a moment she couldn't understand where she was.

The ceiling above her was unfamiliar.

White.

Clean.

The air smelled strongly of antiseptic.

Hospital.

Elena tried to move, but her body felt heavy.

Something warm suddenly wrapped around her hand.

A deep voice spoke beside her.

"Sarah…"

The voice sounded relieved.

And deeply worried.

"You're awake."

Elena slowly turned her head.

A man sat beside the hospital bed.

He looked to be in his late twenties.

Tall and neatly dressed in a dark suit, as if he had come straight from an important meeting.

His hair was slightly messy, as though he had run his hands through it many times.

But what caught Elena's attention the most was the expression on his face.

Concern.

Relief.

And something deeper.

He leaned closer to her.

"Sarah," he said again softly.

"You scared me."

Elena frowned slightly.

Her mind struggled to process the situation.

Sarah?

The man gently squeezed her hand.

"Do you feel any pain?" he asked.

"Should I call the doctor?"

Elena stared at him.

She had never seen this man before in her life.

Her heart began to beat faster.

Who was he?

The man noticed the confusion in her eyes.

His brows slowly pulled together.

"…Sarah?"

Elena slowly shook her head.

Her hands moved weakly.

Who are you?

The man froze.

For a moment he didn't move.

Then worry quickly filled his face.

"…You don't recognize me?" he asked quietly.

Elena shook her head again.

The silence between them grew heavy.

The man ran a hand through his dark hair, clearly troubled.

Then he leaned closer again.

"Sarah… it's me," he said softly.

"Luca."

The name meant nothing to her.

Elena's fingers tightened slightly around the hospital sheets.

Her hands moved again.

Where am I?

Luca's expression darkened with concern.

"You're in the hospital," he explained gently.

"You had an accident."

His voice softened.

"You fell off the cliff last night."

Fragments of memory suddenly flashed through Elena's mind.

The rain.

The road.

The ditch.

The fall.

Her chest tightened painfully.

Luca noticed the change in her expression.

"It's alright," he said quickly.

"You're safe now."

Then he hesitated.

His eyes studied her carefully.

"You really don't remember anything?" he asked.

Elena slowly shook her head again.

Luca looked at her for several seconds.

Then he sighed quietly.

"…The doctors said trauma can sometimes cause memory problems."

His voice was calm, but there was worry behind it.

He gently squeezed her hand again.

"You don't have to be afraid."

Elena watched him silently.

Luca stood and walked toward the window.

The rain outside had stopped.

The sky was beginning to brighten with early morning light.

For a moment he stood there quietly.

Then he spoke again.

"When the rescue team arrived at the cliff…"

His voice became tight.

"…they found you, my love."

Elena's heart skipped.

"You."

He turned back toward her.

"They searched everywhere for your car, but they couldn't find it, you don't have to worry, i will get you a new one, as soon as possible."

"ok my love ."

Elena froze.

What love?

Luca walked back toward the bed slowly.

"you are my love, my wife "sarah," he continued quietly.

"you were so pissed that night… ,the night you left the house, I know, I should have chased you, but I wasn't in the right frame of mind either."

His eyes met hers again.

"Don't make a scene and I promise, I will let you leave …"

He hesitated.

"…you think ruining away from me, will make everything go away, you married to me now "

Elena's heart pounded loudly.

Luca studied her face carefully.

"You crawled into my bed…

forced me to marry you

and you think you can just runaway " he said.

"It is for better or for worse…

till death do is part ."

Elena felt a chill run down her spine.

Luca's gaze softened.

"Try to be a good little wife, and maybe I will show you some mercy ."

Elena's fingers curled slightly against the sheets.

" Please, someone save me from this lunatic "

"Why aren't you talking?, scared now ?," he said quietly.

"You always made sure you had the last laugh…

feeling generous I suppose ?…"

His voice lowered.

"…can't."

Concern filled his eyes.

"doctor what is wrong with her? "

He gently brushed a strand of hair away from her face.

" the accident might have caused, a little trauma in her brain, making it hard for her to talk, but with time, she will be better"

The doctor said

"You must have been terrified."

Elena stared at him silently.

Her mind raced.

He truly believed she was his wife.

He had no idea.

Luca sat down beside the bed again.

His voice became gentle.

"Don't worry," he said softly.

"You're safe now."

Then he gave her a reassuring smile.

"We'll figure everything out together, Sarah."

Elena felt her heart pounding harder.

Because she knew something Luca didn't.

She wasn't Sarah.

She was Elena.

And somehow…

She had just stepped into someone else's nightmare .
