It was 3:00 PM. I let out a satisfied breath, saving my work for the day, and stretched my arms over my head. My first week back at JeffTech was going beautifully, but the best part of my new routine was this exact moment, closing time.
By the time I gathered my bag and rode the elevator down to the daycare, I was already missing my little girl. I pushed the door open, expecting to see Mama Rita holding her, but I froze in the doorway.
Standing in the center of the colorful playroom was a familiar, towering figure. Franklin was dressed in his sharp, black suit, looking completely massive against the backdrop of miniature plastic chairs and plush toys. He was cradling a fast-asleep Lael against his broad chest, his large hand gently supporting her head as she snored softly against his shoulder. Mama Rita stood nearby, looking at the two of them with a deeply amused, adoring smile.
