She stared after him until he disappeared through the door.
Did she do something wrong?
And what did Friedrich mean by he didn't know? Wasn't it supposed to be common knowledge? After all, they dined together everyday, did they not?
She lowered her eyes and decided to focus on her own meal.
Theodore probably wanted it that way…
What was even worse was that he probably saw it as a weakness and wanted to hide it, she thought.
"You seem very close to him… even closer than I am." Friedrich muttered, his eyes fixed on her.
The Duke cleared his throat. "Let us enjoy this meal in silence, Friedrich."
Eve stole a glance at the empty chair beside her before resuming her meal.
She must have revealed too much…
"My lord." She began, looking up at the old man that managed to remain handsome despite his constant illnesses.
"Yes?"
"I wanted to inform you… and Friedrich that I would be going to see my parents the day after tomorrow."
