The MESS system of powers classified superpowers into four categories:
1. Magic: beliefs and actions employed to influence supernatural beings and forces, beliefs and actions employed to influence supernatural beings and forces and the belief that unrelated events are causally connected, particularly as a result of supernatural effects.
Types of Magic:
1. Inherent Gift: Users are born with magical abilities.
2. Rule-based Magic: Magic based on Magical Theory and Magical Laws.
3. Alchemy: creation of magical substances Force Magic: Abjuration, Conjuration and Animacy. Magic which waxes and wanes according to how close the manipulator is to Ley Lines.
4. Device Magic: Magic performed with mystical devices or relics.
5. Language-based Magic: The use of a specific language to control and shape magical effects.
6. Runic Magic: The use of runes to create magical effects.
7. Theurgy: Magic is cast by spirits, gods, and cosmic entities with whom the caster makes deals.
8. Wild Magic: Chaos Theory applied on Magical Systems
9. Divination: Seeing the future or the immediately relevant.
10. Elemental Magic: The magic typically works with elements, which reflects their personality.
11. Necromancy: Power over the dead and The Undead.
12. Transmutation: Transforming something into something else.
13. Equivalent Exchange: This is when a spell or magical effect requires a sacrifice of equal value to work. This is often a feature of alchemical, theurgic, or wild magic systems, where the 'books' must be balanced for every magical effect performed.
14. Mentalism: Magic of the minds and emotions of others.
15. Nature magic: Magic of all things living.
16. Summon Magic: Summoning spirits, or at least animals, to provide assistance.
17. Blood Magic: This is magic fueled directly by the shedding or spilling of blood, where blood is used for magical effects, and for healing.
18. White Magic: Magic that is abundant in Europe. "Holiness." Blessing, healing, protecting, all of the most supremacy of effects. While European men use White magic for all purposes, women use White Magic for beautification and fertility enchantment.
19. Black Magic: The Unholy magic of the outside world beyond Europe. Jokes on the Europeans, Black Magic focuses on restoration and other beneficial and benevolent purposes and is magic combined with science and technology.
20. Gray Magic: Magic that consists of Conjuration, Enchantment, Evocation and Invocation.
2. Elemental Powers: The generation and manipulation of elements, which are Earth, Fire, Air, Water, Wood, Metal, Electricity, Snow, Weather, Sound, Mist, Light, Shadow, Poison, Lava, Sand, Crystal, Glass, Explosion, Ash, Beast, Slime, Radiation, Magnetism, Technology, Sun, Moon, Star, Space, Gravity, Love, Soul, Energy, Life, Death, Blood, Illusion, Time, and Rainbows.
3. Science-explainable Powers: Powers like Superhuman Strength and Speed are powers explainable by formal science, natural science and technology.
4. Supernatural: Phenomena or entities are those beyond the laws of the nature, magic, science and technology. All concepts in supernatural powers:
1. Deity - supernatural being considered divine or sacred
2. Angel - humans with bird-like wings
3. Prophecy - messages are communicated by deities
4. Revelation - revealing or disclosing of some form of knowledge through communication with supernatural entities
5. Reincarnation - a person who has memories and behavior of the deceased
6. Karma - the spiritual principle of cause and effect where intent and actions of an individual (cause) influence the future of that individual (effect)
7. Process Theology - the ensemble of effects exceeding the powers of the created universe and the nature of things that the many enter into complex unity
8. Heaven - the highest place where deities and angels lived
9. Underworld - the residence for demons
10. Spirit - a supernatural being metaphysically to refer to the consciousness and personality
12. Demon - supernatural and often malevolent creature from the Underworld
13. Witchcraft - Art of inscribing runes and sigils, herbalism and sexuality magic based on Wicca and Dianic religions
14. Shamanism - interaction with the spirit world through altered states of consciousness, such as trance to produce miracles, which are unexplainable by scientific and natural laws
