Sienna's POV
"You're lying," Xavier said.
He didn't yell. He didn't have to. His voice just dropped into that low, heavy register that usually meant he was already ten steps ahead of whatever I was trying to hide. His hand stayed right on my shoulder, warm and solid, but his eyes were drilling into mine.
I didn't look away from the window. "I'm fine, Xavier."
"The maid was flat on the floor, Sienna."
"She fainted. People faint."
"And you're shaking."
"I'm not shaking," I lied, tightening my fingers against my skirt so he couldn't see the slight tremor in my knuckles.
Xavier let out a short, rough breath and stepped closer, crowding my space until all I could smell was cedar and rain. He reached out, his thumb brushing against the side of my jaw. When he pulled it back, there was a tiny smudge of red on his skin.
"You're bleeding," he murmured.
