Headmistress Seraphine Vale walked beside Alexa through the grand halls of Arcadia Academy, her footsteps echoing softly against polished stone floors that shimmered faintly as if infused with magic.
"Arcadia is older than most kingdoms," the headmistress said calmly. "It has stood through wars, awakenings, and the rise of many gifted souls."
Alexa looked around in awe. "It's… incredible."
They passed classrooms where glowing runes floated in the air, training grounds where students practiced spells, and a glass corridor overlooking gardens where plants glowed gently in shades of blue and silver.
Seraphine gestured toward a courtyard. "That is the Elemental Grounds. You will have lessons there."
Alexa nodded, trying to take it all in.
After some time, they reached a tall arched door carved with delicate symbols.
"This," Seraphine said, opening it, "is your dormitory."
Inside, the space opened into a wide circular room filled with soft golden light.
Five beautiful beds were arranged around the room — each one unique, draped in flowing fabrics that shimmered like morning dew. One bed was surrounded by gently drifting feathers of light, another by soft floating orbs, another by vines with tiny glowing blossoms curling around the posts. Tall windows overlooked the academy gardens, and sheer curtains moved gently though no wind could be felt.
Shelves lined the walls filled with books, small enchanted trinkets, and softly glowing crystals. The air smelled faintly of lavender and rain.
Alexa breathed out slowly. "Wow…"
Seraphine smiled faintly. "You will find comfort here."
She turned to Alexa. "Your roommates will help you settle in."
Alexa nodded nervously.
The headmistress paused at the doorway. "If you need guidance, you may seek me."
"Thank you," Alexa said.
Seraphine inclined her head and left.
—
Alexa stepped further into the room.
Five girls looked up.
The first to approach was a cheerful girl with bright eyes and an open smile.
"Hi! You must be Alexa," she said warmly. "I'm Sarah. Welcome!"
"Hi," Alexa replied, still overwhelmed.
Sarah laughed lightly. "First day shock — totally normal."
She lifted her hand — a gentle breeze swirled through the room, causing a small book to rise into the air and float gracefully before settling back down.
"I can move things with the wind," Sarah said proudly. "Air manipulation."
"That's amazing," Alexa said softly.
Next, a girl with calm, observant eyes stepped forward.
"I'm Mia," she said. "Illusions are my specialty."
She snapped her fingers — for a moment, glowing butterflies filled the air, fluttering around Alexa before fading like mist.
Alexa smiled. "That's beautiful."
A confident girl with radiant energy waved. "Stella. Light manipulation."
She lifted her palm — a soft burst of blinding white light flared gently, illuminating the room like sunlight.
"Useful in dark places," Stella added with a grin.
Another girl with gentle features waved shyly. "I'm Wendy."
A ribbon of water formed above her hand, flowing in delicate patterns before dissolving into sparkling droplets.
"I can control water," she said softly.
Finally, a girl with sharp eyes and quiet confidence stepped forward.
"I'm Ferah," she said.
Small stones lifted from the floor around her, hovering steadily.
"Geomancy — I can control earth and minerals."
"That's… so cool," Alexa said, genuinely impressed.
They all smiled.
Sarah gestured toward the empty bed — draped in deep crimson fabric that shimmered faintly like embers.
"That one's yours."
Alexa set down her bag and sat on the bed, feeling its warmth.
After a moment, Stella asked curiously, "So… what's your power?"
Alexa hesitated. "I… don't know."
They blinked.
"You don't know?" Mia asked.
Alexa shrugged awkwardly. "My old school's bathroom exploded… and my dad said it might have been me. Then Arcadia invited me. I didn't ask to come."
They exchanged looks.
Sarah nodded thoughtfully. "Well, sometimes powers manifest suddenly."
Wendy smiled gently. "You'll discover it soon."
Ferah crossed her arms thoughtfully. "Arcadia doesn't invite people without reason."
Alexa lay back on the bed, exhaling slowly.
Suddenly —
A deep bell rang throughout the academy.
A voice echoed magically through the halls.
"Attention students. Assembly will begin shortly in the Grand Hall to welcome our new arrivals."
Sarah jumped up. "Oh! That's for you!"
"Come on," Stella said excitedly. "First assembly is always interesting."
Alexa sat up, heart racing.
"Let's go," Mia said with a smile.
Together, they headed toward the door — the beginning of something unknown waiting just beyond.
