Chapter 90 - Chapter 90 – The Lie of the God of War

"You talk as much useless nonsense as your attacks."

Victor's punches grew heavier with every strike.

He had no idea what Sabac was thinking. The demon seemed obsessed with guessing his powers, as if trying to avenge himself against the wizards who once empowered Black Adam.

Meanwhile, Diana had already turned her attention toward Ares.

Victor continued pressing Sabac backward.

Despite the chaos around him, he appeared calm and completely in control.

He wasn't in any hurry to confront Ares.

As long as the God of War died in the end—and hated him with absolute fury and unwillingness—that would be enough.

"The demon in front of me can still provide plenty of emotional points," Victor thought.

Across the courtyard, Diana narrowed her eyes at the newly arrived figure.

"Are you Ares?"

Her voice was sharp.

"Evil God of War, who are you calling sister?"

Ares had been observing her quietly since his arrival.

Now he chuckled softly as he descended to the ground.

"Of course I'm referring to you," he said.

"The daughter of Hippolyta."

Diana's expression shifted.

"Didn't your mother tell you the truth about your birth?"

"She told me she shaped me from clay," Diana replied quickly.

"She prayed to Zeus to give me life."

Recognizing Ares as a god, Diana reacted instantly.

She swung the Lasso of Truth around him.

"Tell me the truth, Ares!"

The golden rope wrapped around him.

But Ares didn't resist.

"My sister," he said calmly, "I am telling the truth."

Diana froze.

The Lasso of Truth compelled absolute honesty—even from gods.

Yet Ares spoke freely.

Her mind flashed back to the moment before she left Paradise Island.

Her mother had insisted that only a god could kill another god.

Then suddenly changed her words and claimed the Sword of Vulcan was an exception.

"Could it be…"

For a moment Diana felt overwhelmed by the flood of information.

But she quickly shook her head and forced her thoughts into order.

Her eyes hardened with determination.

"It doesn't matter whether I'm the daughter of Zeus or not."

Her voice rang with fury.

"The important thing is that you will never harm anyone again!"

"You will never provoke war among humans again!"

Victor knocked Sabac away with another punch.

Even he had to admire Diana's clarity of thought.

Most people would be shaken if they suddenly learned the enemy they were about to kill was their own half-brother.

But not Diana.

"Greek mythology rarely cared about blood relations," Victor thought.

"Especially when Zeus was involved."

Diana pulled hard on the Lasso of Truth.

But she wasn't stronger than the God of War.

Ares lifted a finger slightly.

A wave of divine force flickered through the air, and the rope loosened before slipping away from him.

"My sister," Ares said with faint disdain.

"You still have much to learn."

He looked at her like a teacher examining a naive child.

"To me, you're nothing more than a child playing with toys."

Diana possessed Zeus's blood.

She stood only one step away from true godhood.

Yet she clearly didn't know how to wield her divine power.

Perhaps she didn't even realize it existed.

But that suited Ares perfectly.

"Die, Ares!"

Diana shouted.

Her body moved like a descending war goddess as she leapt forward.

The Sword of Vulcan stabbed toward Ares with unstoppable force.

The daughter of Zeus attacking the eldest son of Zeus.

For a moment, time seemed to slow.

Sabac, who had just climbed back to his feet, felt his heart tighten.

He had already experienced the sword's terrifying sharpness.

How would the legendary God of War respond?

Would he dodge?

Block?

"My sister," Ares said calmly.

"You came here to kill me for the sake of mortals?"

He raised his hand casually.

The blade pierced his palm.

Then something strange happened.

The divine sword dissolved instantly.

Its blade crumbled into ash as if erased by some unseen power.

Only the hilt remained protruding from Ares's hand.

He looked completely unconcerned.

"I thought you stayed on Paradise Island because you followed our father's wishes."

Ares shook his head slowly.

"Gods rule the world."

"We are not slaves to humanity."

"You disappoint me, sister."

Diana stared at the weapon in disbelief.

"The Godslayer…"

Her voice trembled.

The legendary sword her mother had entrusted to her—claimed to be able to kill gods—had been destroyed in an instant.

Sabac's expression changed as well.

The power of Zeus's son was terrifying.

He silently thanked whatever luck had kept him from challenging Ares earlier.

"That sword cut my body like paper," Sabac thought.

"And he destroyed it effortlessly."

Among everyone present, only Victor remained completely unsurprised.

A strange expression flickered in his eyes.

"That wasn't the God Killer," Ares continued calmly.

He blew the ashes from his palm as if brushing away dust.

"You are the true weapon our father left behind to deal with me."

Diana felt a sharp shock run through her.

If her mother had lied about her birth…

Then the so-called Godslayer must also be a lie.

Her faith wavered.

She glanced briefly toward Victor before tightening her grip on the sword hilt.

Perhaps she would have to fight Ares with her own power.

After all, Victor didn't even know he had been deceived.

Only a god could kill another god.

And she was the only god here.

"You are so naive, Diana."

Victor's calm voice suddenly interrupted her thoughts.

"Do you know how many wars have been won through lies and deception?"

Diana hesitated.

Then she tossed the sword hilt aside.

Victor continued speaking.

"The reputation of Ares has echoed across the world for thousands of years."

"They say you represent power."

"They say you are arrogant, ruthless, and bloodthirsty."

He looked directly at the God of War.

"But I think you represent something else as well."

Victor's voice carried a hint of mockery.

"Cunning."

"And cowardice."

Boom!

The air seemed to explode.

Ares's expression darkened instantly.

"Mortal," he said slowly.

"Do you know who you are speaking to?"

His gaze fell upon Victor like a crushing weight.

The pressure in the air became almost suffocating.

His voice thundered across the courtyard.

Even the sky seemed to react.

Dark clouds gathered overhead in seconds.

Lightning twisted through the sky like furious serpents.

Suddenly the steel fragments scattered across the battlefield rose into the air.

They surged toward Victor like a raging storm.

The metal whirlwind screamed through the air, ready to shred him into pieces.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The storm slammed against the walls behind him.

Concrete strong enough to withstand anti-tank rifles was punched full of holes.

Yet Victor remained standing exactly where he had been.

He looked thoughtful, as if considering something carefully.

Then he spoke again.

"So that's it."

His eyes narrowed slightly.

"A liar."

From Victor's perspective, Diana's strike had never actually landed.

Ares had dodged.

Then he used divine power to distort everyone's senses.

Diana believed the sword had shattered.

Sabac had believed it as well.

Even the evidence seemed convincing.

Victor continued speaking calmly.

"You're using divine power to manipulate perception."

"You make people believe you're invincible."

"So they'll throw away the only weapon capable of killing you."
