Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Ronan's pov

My eyes went to the door, my finger thrumming silently on the desk.

I kissed my teeth before shifting my attention to the occupant of the other seat.

"When would he be here?", I asked my assistant

"I'm not sure yet, he didn't say. But he asked me for the time you would be available and I told him that,

so we probably should assume that would be the time he would show up", he replied and I let out a low chuckle.

The nerve

The poor man is so scared that he can't even tell the person he is meeting when he is meeting him or….

Wait, did he even say where?

"Is he also not coming here ? Did he say where we are meeting or do I have to act like a spy and go to him?", I asked and a small laughter escaped from my assistant.

"Apparently, yes. He said he will let us know where we will meet with him. He sounded all so mysterious, I thought he was joking at first", he answered.

Of course ,he didn't. I get to replay the Bourne supremacy.

'If he had come to me directly, seeking my help, there is a high chance I wouldn't have paid attention to him but he had to go through the governor. Suddenly, it's voluntary that I do this for him', I muttered to myself

Eishhhh

tsk

At least, I'm going to get something out of this, money and the knowledge of who has kept the reputation of being known as the faceless death for two years in the territory of the most vicious wolves to exist.

" Have you pull up every files that is connected with this case?", i randomly asked

"Yes sir, it seems a lot of the security divisions have given up on the case and decided the information is for the public now, so it wasn't really hard to get it", he answered, noisily pushing his chair back to stand up.

"Oh, I see. Anyways, I have a meeting with the lawyer from yesterday, the one that has to do with the inheritance game of the old man.

I need you to get in touch with the agent on the case. The family needs assurance, in whatever form it comes in and I will like to give them something to hold on to", I instructed him.

"Ok sir, let me get started on that. Will let you know about any information on both cases", he said as he left my office.

I nodded after him, watched him close the door before unfashionably falling back on my seat.

Am I next? Does accepting this bring the one thing that has limited my urges? How fast will it come? When will it come? Who is bringing it?

Thought rumbles in my head, different questions tumbling to the front of mind only to be replaced by another one.

I took a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to calm myself.

I feel like I was forced to open the door barring death from my life.

Why do I have to take on this case? I avoided it for so bloody long and now…..

Now, it's on my table , waiting to be solved.

I stared at the ceiling for so long, debating how far I wanted to go in this case when the sound of a knock broke through my thought process.

"Come in", I called out but the door didn't open.

I waited a couple of seconds before calling out again, "come in", but nothing happened, no reaction, just total silence.

I unstrapped my gun, removed it from safety and pointed it at the door.

I made to stand up but another knock came through, causing me to pause.

I waited and there was another knock, this time I didn't reply, even if I was gripped by curiosity.

"Boss.. can I come in ? I got some information on the inheritance case", the voice of my assistant pierced through the nervous tension .

I hid my gun under the table, poised to shoot at any moment, fixed my suit ( there was nothing to fix) before answering with a slightly raised voice,

"Come in".

The door opened to reveal only my assistant, his face etched with confusion.

"Were you the one that knocked the first time?", I inquired

"Yes", he answered, taking slow steps towards me.

"And why did you go silent on me, even after hearing me call out twice, giving you permission to enter? Were you just standing there, deciding to be mute", I questioned,my voice dropping.

He slowed to a stop, few feet from my table, picking up on the change,

"I had to rush back to my office, a call came through after the first knock. I wasn't just standing by the door, ignoring you", he explained.

I stared at him a while longer, waiting to sniff any hint of him cracking but nothing. He held his head high, keeping eye contact.

"And what information do you have for me?", I asked, deciding to trust his words.

He covered the remaining space and placed his phone on my desk, a picture of a girl on his screen.

I threw a questioning look at him, waiting for an explanation.

"I don't think that family will be having any form of assurance to hold on to, I think they are going to lose their shit when they find out about this", he said, a shitty grin starting on his face.

What the..

"What are you saying? What do you mean?"I demanded , curbing the urge to wipe the grin off his face.

" The wealth, all gone. The girl in this picture is the girl that the old billy gave all his money to",

" But I thought that was nonsense talk, considering the girl he was talking about is in a place where he has never been to", I cut in and he let out a laugh.

"That's what everyone thought too but the man is telling the truth. This girl is his child and the reason why she is where she is now is because her mom hated the old man and hid her from him.

Obviously, the man has the resources to find her but he didn't go the extra mile to let her know about him. He was crazy enough to leave almost everything he owns to her though", he finished.

"Why? I mean, he could have left some inheritance for her, but everything? He had four wives and a lot of children that are depending on him and he went and did this. Why?

Are you sure he was certifiably sane when he wrote his last will?", I wondered out loud.

"That's not even the craziest thing, all the money is gone", he said.

I sat up and folded my arms," what do you mean gone?"

"She gave it all to charities", he replied with a crazy look in his eyes.

It took me a couple of minutes to wrap my head around his words and when it finally did, I grimaced .

The weight of the information was so heavy, I had to leave my seat and pace around my office, occasionally turning to look at my assistant, who, by the way, was still grinning.

Coming back to take my seat, " have you alerted the lawyer about this?", I asked and he shook his head.

"Ok.. well, fix a meeting with them tomorrow and inform them that the presence of the family is not needed", I instructed, pushing his phone to him.

'ok sir but there is one more thing", he said and I nodded for him to continue.

"A letter arrived for you not long ago, this was the main reason I came here", he completed, pulling out a letter from his pockets.

"Who is it from?", I probed and he answered,

"I don't know but it is clearly sent to you ".

I took the letter from him and waited for him to leave before opening it.

He left me his fucking coordinates

I typed the coordinates into my GPS and tracked down the place. It was a backyard restaurant close to the forest.

I guess I better go for lunch.

I pulled out my gun from under the table, strapped it in , grabbed my phone, a bookpad and a pen before leaving my office.

It was a 30 minute drive and on getting to the place, I saw it was packed with weathered men , totally immersed in their arguments, beers and soul food.

My outfit made me the odd fish and I caught a few suspicious looks thrown my way but I disregarded them. I looked around for my client but no sight of him, or someone that might be representing him.

I sniffed the air , hoping to catch a wolf's scent but nothing so I weaved through and found an empty table to occupy.

I ordered their special, waited to be served and started eating immediately the food was set on my table.

As the last serving of the food got into my mouth, a figure cloaked in black got into the seat opposite me.

I didn't bother myself with trying to see his face but the aura surrounding himself almost pushed me to bow before him.

So, this is alpha kael blackthorn, the bringer of doom.

"So, I'm guessing you know why the governor assigned you to my case ", a deep voice boomed.

I nodded

"I want you to find the killer and bring him to me. Can I trust you with that?", he queried.

Clearing my throat, I answered, " yes, you can. I have all the information I need and if I need more clarification on any of the information at hand, I will contact you".

"I will be needing feedback as soon as possible , and if there is nothing more, I'm leaving ", the alpha said and made me to stand but I blurted ,

"Him? Why do you think it's a him?".

He relaxed into the seat , stared at me for a few seconds before saying, "I'm so sure you know who I am and that's all the answers you need.

What mere woman would be smart enough to think of this whole charade? What woman would be strong enough to do this. It's obviously a man and I will crush his very soul when I get him".

A shiver ran through me, his voice dripped of menace and my respect for whoever had the nerve to go against this man grew.

"I got a question for you before I leave", he dropped and I paused.

"Why aren't you scared of it? You are probably next in line despite the secrecy", he asked.

I didn't reply, I couldn't. He stood up and left like he was in a hurry but I noticed a bag on the table.

I pulled it towards me quickly, dropped the bill and left the place.

There was no sign that he was here , no car tracks , nothing.

I drove back to the office, grabbed every file on the case and went back home.

...…

Hours have been spent and no lead whatsoever, I'm starting to lose hope in finding the killer.

One thing was clear though, whoever is doing this is focused on destroying the pack of alpha kael.

Could this be a distraction away from the real motive ? Could this person be misunderstood?

Grrrrrrhhhhhh

My stomach wailed and I groaned. I looked at the clock closest to me and it was almost 3'o clock in the night.

I headed straight for my kitchen to find something to eat before I go back to my home office.

I was in the process of getting water from the tap when my nose got a whiff of blood.

I looked around me to determine the source of the smell only to come face to face with a pair of blood red eyes in a thick black fur.

It's here
