Chapter 1 - Ebhabe Fire Asha Jai,part 14

Title: Ebhabe Fire Asha Jai (This Is How One Can Return)

By Parikshit Halder

The sky above the small town was painted with soft orange light as the sun slowly disappeared behind the trees. Meghla stood beside the quiet river, looking at the flowing water. The gentle wind touched her hair, but her heart felt heavy.

Five years had passed since Arnob left the town.

Once, Arnob and Meghla were inseparable. They studied together, walked along the riverbank, and dreamed about a future where they would always be side by side. Arnob often said, "No matter where life takes me, I will always come back to you."

But life is not always as simple as dreams.

One evening, Arnob received a job opportunity in a big city. It was a chance to change his life and support his struggling family. Meghla smiled and encouraged him, even though her heart trembled with fear.

"Go," she said softly. "Your dreams are important."

Arnob looked at her eyes and replied, "I will return soon. I promise."

At first, Arnob called every day. Their conversations were full of laughter and hope. Meghla waited for those calls like someone waits for sunrise.

But slowly, things began to change.

The calls became shorter. Sometimes days passed without a message. Arnob was busy with work, new people, and a new life. Meghla understood, but the silence still hurt.

Months turned into years.

Many people in the village began whispering, "Arnob will never come back."

Meghla never replied to those words. She continued living her life quietly, helping her parents and teaching children in the village school. Yet every evening, she walked to the same riverbank where they once shared their dreams.

She never stopped believing.

One rainy afternoon, the village looked almost empty. Meghla was returning home with an umbrella when she noticed someone standing under an old banyan tree.

The man looked tired, his clothes wet from rain.

For a moment, Meghla thought her eyes were playing tricks on her.

It was Arnob.

He looked different—older, quieter—but his eyes were the same.

Meghla's heart started beating fast. She walked closer, unsure of what to say.

Arnob slowly looked up. When he saw Meghla, his eyes filled with emotion.

"I came back," he said softly.

Meghla stood silently. The rain fell around them like tiny silver threads.

After a long pause, she asked, "Why now?"

Arnob took a deep breath.

"Because I finally understood something," he replied. "In the city, I achieved success. I earned money, respect, and everything I once dreamed about. But every night, I felt empty."

He looked toward the river.

"I realized the most important thing in my life was never the city. It was this place… and you."

Meghla's eyes filled with tears, but she tried to hide them.

"Five years is a long time," she whispered.

Arnob nodded.

"I know. I made mistakes. I got lost in ambition. But no matter how far I went, my heart kept bringing me back here."

The rain slowly stopped, and the evening sky became calm.

Arnob continued, "If you cannot forgive me, I will understand. But I wanted you to know that I never forgot you."

Meghla looked at him quietly.

For years she had imagined this moment—sometimes with anger, sometimes with sadness. But now that Arnob was truly standing in front of her, her heart felt strangely peaceful.

She remembered all the memories: laughter by the river, shared dreams, promises under the stars.

Life had changed both of them.

But some feelings never truly disappear.

Finally Meghla said, "People thought you would never return."

Arnob smiled gently.

"Sometimes people must lose their way to understand where they truly belong."

The evening breeze returned, carrying the scent of wet earth.

Meghla slowly began walking toward the riverbank. Arnob followed quietly.

They stood together again in the place where their story once began.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Then Meghla said softly, "You know… I still come here every evening."

Arnob looked surprised. "Why?"

Meghla smiled faintly.

"Because somewhere in my heart, I believed that one day you would come back."

Arnob felt a wave of emotion he could not describe.

The sky slowly turned dark, and the first stars appeared above them.

Sometimes life separates people. Sometimes time changes everything.

But sometimes love finds its way back.

And that is how people return.

Author's Thought (Parikshit Halder):

True love may lose its path, but the heart always knows the way home.
