Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 – Love That Came and Went

Life in Surabaya slowly changed me.

Work was still hard, and the salary was never enough, but little by little I began to understand the rhythm of the city. The noise, the pressure, the endless struggle — somehow I started to get used to it.

It was also during this time that I began to know women.

Strangely, even though I was just a quiet construction worker, some girls seemed interested in me. Two girls tried to get close to me, but I never responded. Not because they were bad people, but simply because my heart did not feel anything.

Then one day, my friend Dino introduced me to his girlfriend's friend.

Her name was Dini.

She was tall, beautiful, and elegant. The moment I saw her, I felt something different. For the first time, I met someone who truly matched my taste.

From that moment, Surabaya felt different.

The city that once felt cold and exhausting slowly became a place where I wanted to stay. Dini made those difficult days feel lighter.

But happiness in life is often fragile.

After about four months, problems began to appear. Another man also liked Dini. One night, in a crowded entertainment place, the tension almost turned into a fight.

Dini stood on my side.

But I knew something important: love should not create enemies.

Rather than fighting another man over a woman, I chose to step back.

So I ended the relationship.

Dini cried for almost a month after that. My friends told me about it, but I stayed silent. Sometimes letting go is the only way to avoid bigger problems.

Life continued.

Not long after that, I met another girl.

Her name was Amel.

She was even cuter and more charming than Dini. But what made her special was not only her beauty — it was the way she understood me.

With Amel, everything felt natural. We talked for hours, shared stories about life, and slowly our hearts grew closer.

For the first time, I felt a relationship built on mutual understanding.

Our love lasted longer.

But life had other plans.

Because of work, I had to move to another place. Even though we were far apart, we still kept in touch by phone. Hearing her voice became one of the few things that made my difficult days bearable.

Unfortunately, my job situation became worse. The salary was not enough, and the pressure of survival slowly pulled me away from everything.

Our communication became less frequent.

Until one day, it simply stopped.

There was no argument. No goodbye.

We just disappeared from each other's lives.

Months later, I returned to my village and continued living my life there.

Amel and I never officially broke up.

But time quietly turned us into strangers.

And just like that, she became a memory — a former love without a farewell.
