I get up and I stretch as I summon my armor, I leave my hovel looking around as i do. I start walking around looking for Sunny. The problem is I can't find him anywhere.
I keep going unable to find Sunny, he's the only one I tend to talk to around here. When I can't find him I go back to my little hovel. I sigh as I sit down at the table. I'm so very very bored. I'll have to find someone else to talk to. Definitely not legacy and not changing star, Cass doesn't seem like the type I'd hang out with. So I'll talk with that Effie woman I guess.
The next day another hunt happens, nobody talks about Sunny being gone, I knew they didn't value him but.... still. That's fucked up.
I thought they couldn't have thought he was that unimportant to them right? Right....? No he's not unimportant it's probably just that there was some kind of falling out.
I can tell changing star seems a little on edge, probably more than a little and she's just hiding it. Yeah, that's probably right. Maybe I should still ask where he went. Oh wait, I got attached to him, that was the opposite of my intention. I wasn't too attached, more of me just finding talking with him funny.
3 months, it's been 3 months since I saw Sunny. Healer has told me of some rumors of an insane tiny guy living in the ruined city hunting at night.
Sounds like something that guy would do. Hope he's doing well, I'm sure he's fine, he seemed pretty strong. I've been mostly talking with Effie, it's nice to talk with someone who gets my sex jokes.
Sunny didn't get most of them and healer refuses to respond to them. I don't talk to anyone except Effie mostly. One time she tried to lean on me, she hasn't done that again since, good grief honestly, I mean who actually wants to make contact with people, it's a weird and gross feeling. I'm sure most people agree with me on that.
We've already left the city once to kill an awakened tyrant, it wasn't easy but we won, and a little dagger that can be instantly summoned. I wasn't paying any attention to the name though. Nor do I care to if I'm being honest.
I'm walking around, mostly staying out of sight. I've started leaving my hovel more, I still don't talk to anyone and I keep my helmet on, but hey I'm still leaving, it was prompted by healer of course.
It's early morning as I walk around. I stop seeing a dirty feral black haired sleeper, sunny oh, and some pretty brown haired guy too but sunny's here! I start walking speeding up, just as Sunny turns around I put my hands on his shoulders
"damnation!"
He scrambles away as I laugh.
"You little-"
he points at me with a look of offense.
"Pfft hah! Been a while sun. Like 3 months now?"
He has quite the sour look on his face
"Oh hello, are you uh one of his friends?"
The brown haired one finally speaks, I briefly look over at him
"That's his title to give. I do know Sun from his time as a hunter"
He flinches, what did he expect me to give him the same treatment as Sunny? I look back at sunny
"Where have you been? You just went poof one day and all that. I got worried you died or something"
He stares at me mutters something then he speaks up
"I've been in the city"
I laugh
"That sounds like you. I could kinda tell by how feral you look, healer will be making soup tonight, if you want some"
Sunny doesn't seem very impressed at that
"no I'm okay."
"So who's that guy"
I nod towards the brown haired guy, sunny grins
"This is Kai, aka Night of Nightingale"
I stare at him, I vaguely recognize the name.
"Oh, that singer healer told me about. Cool"
Sunny gets a disappointed look on his face like he thought I'd be impressed by that.
"So where are you going?"
"The castle of course I got things to buy"
I laugh patting Sunny on the shoulder as I leave. I notice him jolt and shiver, being so cold may suck absolute balls but god is it fun to mess with people with it.
Nephis calls me for a meeting. Everyone's there, Legacy, Cass, me, Nephis, and even Effie. We sit waiting for someone whom Nephis hasn't mentioned yet, or maybe she had and I wasn't listening, I was eating jerky, that and I had to give Effie some.
That's when the door opens and Sunny was there, so was that singer guy. So Effie is going to stay with Sunny for a while, unfortunate because then I have nobody to talk to. The rest of us are going to get prepared to go on a very long expedition to where the first bright lord disappeared. Also singer is here because he knows when people are lying and all that.
I yawn as I walk with the cohort, I had given half of the soul shards I have to healer to keep her hired while I'm gone and to purchase a storage memory from her.
I hadn't really done too much, but I did punch some really annoying castle guard. That was really nice, that guy was a massive bitch. We finally meet up with Sunny and Effie. Sunny shows off tons of soul shards and claims he'll buy memories.
"I don't have any extra"
I really don't and also I can't use soul shards anyway. Sunny has a lot of soul shards, good for him, good for him. I crunch on some nightmare creature jerky. Effie gives me a weird look while I eat. As the group walks to get to the wall she puts her hand out to me and does a give me motion.
I stare at her hand trying to figure out what she wants for a minute. Then I put a pack of jerky into her hand she smiles, she puts her arm around me for a second then she jerks back
"Let's be friends froste"
I tilt my head
"I wasn't the one who made the jerky, it was healer."
Effie mutters something about hiring someone, she better not be thinking about trying to poaching healer. I narrow my eyes at her. I then have a thought as I lean over to Sunny
"Hey sun you know what I think?"
He gives me a really weird look
"no I don't"
"I think the great clans are going to go to war"
he stares at me
"Why would you think that?"
I grin
"Think about it, have you ever seen higher-ups of the great clans go to each other's balls, no you haven't more than that the interactions between the two are hostile and the House of night seems to be off doing their own thing"
I shake my head.
"You're really something else"
I stare at him in a confused way
"I don't get what that means. Also... what are we doing again i wasn't listening....?"
After a while, Sunny had a talk with singer. Cass looks at Sunny
"Something is following us."
Sunny speeds up talking to nephis. The group waits to see what's following us, i think we could probably kill whatever it is. Sunny bursts out with That's the weird guy, Gunlaugs' right-hand man, H something. Effie says we need to run because we'll die if we fight him.
Well, here we go, running away. Effie leads us to a fallen lighthouse. She leads us to a hole talking about there being nightmare creatures that we can't kill, maybe I'll summon my echo this time. She tells us to jump down. I lean over it, then I jump, who wouldn't want to jump into a hole? Wait.
Once everyone is down we summon our weapons. I summon my cutlass, its not my favorite weapon nor the one I'm best with, but daggers aren't the best from what Effie described is down here. Sunny summons a rad as hell looking knight, really cool looking. I nod with approval looking it over.
We start walking, and apparently we're in the catacombs. There's bones everywhere, not fun at all. A skeleton appears in front of us then it attacks with a lot of speed
"Well rattle me sideways, I guess the skeleton war is here at this time of year too."
I get a few weird looks then Effie yells something, i wasn't listening again, and rams it smashing it easily. It's destroyed in one hit. We start moving and the skeleton tries to grab Sunny it fails of course when sunny kicks the thing.
I stay at the back with Sunny hitting any and all skeletons that come my way. I'm not even getting anything out of it, this sucks. For a while we're mostly fine, any time we pass a tunnel I close it off with a wall of ice, it breaks pretty quickly but it still slows the annoying things down.
Then we deal with a whole wave of skeletons, we slowly get on the backfoot so I summon my echo after getting hit in the side pretty badly, a large ice lizard comes out of the closet outcropping of ice and it starts destroying the skeletons. I move to reinforce Cass and singer leaving sunny with my echo.
Still, it's just one demon, that isn't a physical fighter and one sleeper and there is countless skeletons attacking all at once. There's far too many and we're quickly getting overwhelmed. After a while, we make it to a massive hole with a bridge on it. I make an ice wall behind us that quickly gets broken but I keep remaking it to slow the annoying things down.
Most of us get across, Nephis cuts the rope before Sunny could get across! I stare at her, then Sunny jumps into the massive hole. I walk over to the edge looking down, Sunny wouldn't ever sacrifice himself. That's when I hear
"Hey idiots I'm down here!"
I laugh
"knew it"
I then sit down to catch my breath. My echo sits next to me. Legacy walks over to me then he looks at my echo that had sat next to me, kinda like a dog
"You must be from a quite prominent clan to have such an echo, so which family do you come from"
I stare at him, then I stare some more
"What."
He tilts my head gesturing at me
"What clan do you come from?"
I stare at him trying to figure out if this was a joke or if I was being mocked
"I'm not a legacy?"
The whole group goes silent looking at me
"Wait did you all think I was a legacy?!"
Later when we all finally had caught our breath we got to walking sunny walks over leaning towards me
"how did you even get that echo???"
I look over with pride
"I killed a fallen demon, i already told you I did"
he stares at me clearly not believing me
"I did, it used mostly fire and was mostly pretty weak physically."
He nods looking at my echo with suspicion then he nods walking to Effie. Singer walks over to me looking a bit sheepish.
"Oh uh hey I never actually got your name and I doubt you want to be called the ice hunter, as everyone in the castle calls you"
I tilt my head, that's a sick ass nickname.
"It's ■■■■ but if you want keep calling me the ice hunter"
I look away, I can see why he's some famous singer or whatever. Damn ice hunter is a cool ass name
"Well it's nice to know ■■■■"
he smiles at me.
"Hey singer, if we get out of here, tell me when the movie is made would you. I want to be involved"
he stares at me dumbfounded
"What?"
"Look if a bunch of sleepers all who killed a ton of awakened nightmare creatures wake up one day, that's having a movie made about it 100%"
he nods getting a weird look.
"Why do you want to get involved?"
That's a dumb question
"Of course I do, I don't want people misunderstanding me."
He nods still pretty confused
"yeah sure I'll do that if we get out of here"
We keep walking until Effie says something about a big nightmare creature. I doubt we'll have a problem with it. When we get to the main part of the catacombs, we cannot in fact deal with it, a fallen tyrant or at least thats what i think.
I look up at a hole in the roof made by a statues hand. That seems to be our goal, our way out. We get attacked, i duck down, its like there was a massive storm above my head by pure wind power. I active my feather boots and I grab the closest person, Legacy, who then yelps like a child which is incredibly funny, and I fly up to the hole getting to the edge of the hole.
I squat looking down at everyone fighting
"why did you do that?"
"You were the closet"
I wave him off. Kai flys up with a rope that I grab and I tie it to a rock. Everyone climbs up the rope except sunny who runs at it putting his hand in it like a damn mad man!
He pulls something out, freaks out having a blood sucker on his arm, it randomly explodes for some reason, I almost toss a rock at it but I'm stopped by legacy. I remove his hand as sunny finally gets up here.
We all sit there, Legacy gives me a few weird looks
"are you sure you aren't a legacy?"
I stare at him then I turn away. I desummon my helmet, leaning back for a but before I open my eyes noticing them all staring at me
"what?"
Effie grins
"well would you look at that, you are a human and not some nightmare creature"
"are you sure you aren't one? with all that strength im sure that wouldnt be shocking. We already saw from sunnys echo they can look pretty human"
Effie laughs
"if I was a nightmare creature id have already eaten all of you"
I laugh
"like you could kill all of us, plus we wouldn't taste good."
