Chapter 2 - "system"

Looking at the numbers, Wang Wei frowned.

"My body is in worse condition than I thought…"

Then his eyes stopped at something.

Age: 21 / 50

"What does that mean?" he muttered.

"Does that mean I'll die at fifty?"

His expression darkened.

"That's even shorter than the average lifespan from my previous world…"

But soon he shook his head.

"That's not the biggest problem right now."

A cold wind suddenly blew across the mountain.

Only then did he realize something important.

He was completely naked.

An embarrassing feeling immediately washed over him.

After all, he had never stood naked in the open air like this in his previous life.

Just then—

Ding!

A notification appeared.

[Newbie Pack Available]

Wang Wei's eyes lit up.

He quickly opened it.

Inside the pack he saw:

A set of clothesSome foodA special item

And a message appeared.

[Barrier – Create a protective barrier covering the mountain. Activate?]

YES / NO

"Barrier?" Wang Wei muttered.

"What does it do?"

He quickly opened the explanation.

[Barrier: Protects the host from monsters. Monsters cannot detect or harm the host while inside the barrier.]

[Additional effect: Every human added as a citizen expands the barrier by 5 meters.]

After reading this, Wang Wei's eyes widened.

"This is exactly what I need right now."

Without hesitation, he pressed YES.

Immediately, a blue-colored dome began appearing around the mountain.

In an instant, it covered the entire area.

Then it slowly faded, becoming invisible as if nothing had ever been there.

Wang Wei quickly put on the clothes and began eating the jerky.

While chewing, he looked back at the system panel.

"Hmm…"

Then he noticed something.

Barrier Duration: 0 / 100 Years

"So the barrier will only last for a hundred years…"

Wang Wei murmured.

Then another panel appeared.

Quest Board

His eyes widened as he read the main quest.

Main Quest:

Make humanity strong enough to stand against the monsters within 100 years. Find a path to immortality for humans.

Failure: Death

Reward: ???

Wang Wei swallowed slowly.

"Looks like this system really expects me to save humanity…"

Then he looked at the other quests.

Daily Quest

 Quest: Do 100 push-ups

Reward: Strength +1

Quest: Run 10 km

Reward: Agility +1

Quest: Do 50 squats

Reward: Stamina +1

Wang Wei blinked.

"…That's it?"

"That's too easy," he said to himself.

Wang Wei stood up and immediately started running.

At first, he thought it would be simple.

But after some time, he was already panting heavily.

"Ha… ha…"

"It's much harder than it looks…"

Every time he stopped, even for a second, to catch his breath, the system's counter stopped.

All of his effort would go to waste.

Seeing this, Wang Wei quickly understood something.

"I should start with stamina first," he muttered.

"If my stamina increases, I'll be able to complete the other tasks without stopping."

Wang Wei knew one thing very clearly.

If he wanted to survive in this world, he had to grow stronger as fast as possible.

And he didn't have much time.

In just few days, the food supply from the system would run out.

Soon, he would have no choice but to leave the mountain.

And outside…

Monsters ruled the world.

That was why, before leaving, Wang Wei had already made a decision.

"I need to raise my stats to at least 10."

Only then would he have a chance to survive.

So he clenched his fists, took a deep breath, and started running again.

No stopping.

No resting.

After several days, Wang Wei opened his system panel again.

Name: Wang Wei

Age: 21 / 50

Strength: 10

Stamina: 10

Agility: 10

After day's of nonstop exercise, he had finally raised all his stats.

His body had changed a lot as well.

He was stronger.

Faster.

And his breathing had become much steadier.

The hardest stat to raise had been Agility.

Running a 10 km again and again without stopping was no joke.

But in the end, he still managed to reach his goal.

Just then—

Ding!

A notification appeared in front of him.

[Reward for reaching 10 in all stats.]

Wang Wei opened the reward panel.

Inside, there was only one item.

A sword.

It wasn't anything special.

Just a simple, ordinary sword.

Wang Wei rubbed his fingers along the blade and muttered to himself,

"Well… it's better than nothing."

Then he slowly turned his head and looked toward the distant mountains and the endless jungle beyond.

His expression became serious.

"It's time to see…"

"…what lies in this world."

With the sword in his hand, Wang Wei took his first step toward the unknown forest.
