Chapter 204 - Chapter 203 Dragon Riders*

*

"Syrax, calm down!"

Dan shouted, taking a step forward to stand in front of the slowly crawling Syrax. He waved his hand, signaling Valenna not to follow. He then shuffled, step by tiny step, towards Syrax.

"Syrax, be obedient, don't be impulsive."

Dan spoke fluent High Valyrian. Among their generation, his High Valyrian proficiency was second only to his elder brother, but before taming a dragon, the quality of one's High Valyrian was actually meaningless.

Syrax tilted its head, glaring unkindly at Arrax high above. It didn't even intend to heed Dan. To it, which little bug came was equally meaningless.

To it, a good, thorough fight was more meaningful. Among its peers, Skyfire and Hovendes, Hovendes was no match for it. Although Skyfire could fight it for a while, Syrax's size advantage meant Skyfire couldn't truly defeat it. As for the dragons, it couldn't beat Vermithor or Silverwing, nor Shadow Nightmare. Only Arrax was its current target to challenge.

"Singer, come out and fight!"

Syrax roared, ready to leap onto the high ground where Arrax was, completely unaware that Dan, realizing Syrax was ignoring him, had quietly moved beneath its neck.

Arrax glanced at Syrax, then buried its head, revealing a pair of crown-shaped, massive dragon horns to Syrax.

Syrax was enraged, roaring and about to leap, but its body suddenly froze.

Only now did it notice a small thing had appeared on its body.

Dan grabbed Syrax's scales, leaped up, and threw his entire body onto Syrax's rugged, scaly back. For ease of taming dragons, they wore simple vests when doing so.

The Varezes family bloodline possessed incredible magic. Jacaerys had once secretly told him that the blood and scars shed during the dragon taming process were proof of a true dragon knight. The more blood he shed, the better his future relationship with the dragon would be.

Dan was half-convinced by this claim, but there was no turning back. The last failed dragon taming had left Dan despondent for a long time. He needed this opportunity to prove himself worthy of the name, Son of Dragonzel.

He clung tightly to the dragon's back, his arms instantly scraped raw and bleeding by the scales, but the blood was then completely evaporated by the heat emanating from the dragon's body.

But Dan didn't feel pain. Instead, the moment he clung to the dragon's back, he felt a different sensation.

An indescribable feeling.

He felt as if he had another self.

Syrax froze for a moment. The next instant, only its furious roars filled the entire Dragonpit. It twisted its head and spewed out ghastly green dragonflame, but because its dragon horns were too large, it couldn't reach behind itself. The ghastly green dragonflame swept across the Dragonpit, exploding with a boom on the dark mountain wall, leaving a huge crater.

"Quiet, you wooden cub!"

Vermithor's muffled roar almost instantly overpowered Syrax's roars the moment the dragonflame exploded. The bronze-colored dragon slowly poked its head out of its nest. It slowly brushed past Dragonzel's outstretched hand, extending itself outside the cave.

Syrax let out a small, unwilling roar, then could only grudgingly swallow its dragonflame. It twisted its head and struggled violently, trying to shake Dan off.

Last time, Dan had lost his grip during this process and was thrown off by Syrax. If not for Arrax and Shadow Nightmare being nearby, something might have happened.

But this time, the young members of the Varezes family were prepared.

"Skyfire, hold down Syrax!" The robust Jacaerys was a straightforward fellow. The moment he saw Syrax acting up, he immediately patted Skyfire's neck, signaling it not to provoke Vermithor. Skyfire also swallowed the dragonflame that was ready to erupt at any moment and pounced without hesitation. Its massive, spiky head only took one strike to knock Syrax's head askew.

"Thornbird, get lost!"

The exasperated Syrax ignored Vermithor's recent roar, let out a loud bellow, lowered its dragon head, and bit at the spikes on Skyfire's neck. Its dragon tail swept across, and its mace-like tail, resembling a butterfly's, crashed violently against Skyfire's spiky tail in mid-air.

Skyfire's bird-beak-like mouth also bit onto Syrax's dragon horn when Syrax bit its neck spikes, preventing the creature with a pair of huge, hard, and sharp dragon horns from using its dragon horn for attack.

"Sarafasas, let's go." Serena, seeing Skyfire entangled with Syrax, also patted the beautiful sapphire-colored dragon. This dragon quickly crawled to the two struggling dragons, bit onto Syrax's other dragon horn, and pressed its dragon claw onto Syrax's body.

"Dan, now!" Serena shouted, "Remember the techniques our brother and father told you!"

Sarafasas's massive form plunged Dan's vision into darkness.

However, this was not a bad thing for him.

Dan could now calm down and seriously establish a connection with Syrax.

He was trying to communicate with that other self in his mind.

An irritable self.

Dan saw Syrax.

This irritable dragon lay cautiously in a dark cave. Compared to its conscious self, Syrax here was like a kitten. It roared at Dan, but Dan heard more than just anger.

Fear.

This isn't like you, Dan thought to himself, the youth's thoughts drifting to his surroundings.

He saw the things beside it.

Enormous bears, mountain-like giant wolves, and ice-blue spiders, constantly undulating snake-like creatures outside the cave, and more than one roaring dragon in the sky.

As well as exploding mountains and flames shooting straight into the sky.

Dan seemed to understand something. He didn't know why Syrax had such memories, or rather, such fear.

But he understood that only by letting Syrax know he could stand with it would it accept him.

He slowly approached Syrax in the cave. The little dragon unhesitatingly bit Dan's exposed arm, and scalding blood instantly poured into the little dragon's throat.

Dan hugged Syrax.

Don't be afraid. I'm here.

Syrax's teeth bit tighter and tighter, and ghastly green flames suddenly surged forth, engulfing both itself and Dan.

But Dan didn't let go.

Syrax, I know what you're thinking.

Don't be afraid. I, Dan Valareus, swear in the name of my father and the ancient gods.

I will be by your side.

From this day forward, until the end of my life.

The flames completely consumed the man and the dragon.

Arrax also let out a soft roar at the opportune moment. Its voice was still so pleasant, yet it made the dragons all turn to look at it. Even Hovendes, who had remained at the entrance of the Dragonpit to protect Valenna, couldn't help but slowly lie down.

Syrax's irritability gradually receded. It loosened its mouth from Skyfire's spikes and released its dragon claws entangled with Skyfire. Skyfire and Sarafasas also released their dragon mouths.

Jacaerys and Serena looked at each other with some surprise.

They only allowed their companions to relax after receiving the message that Syrax no longer resisted Dan.

This indicated that Dan had gained the dragon's approval.

Syrax let out a roar; it no longer resisted Dan's riding.

Dan straightened up and patted Syrax's neck.

"Congratulations, little brother." Serena was so happy she almost bounced off the dragon's back. "You succeeded."

Jacaerys let out a hearty laugh, and Orion joyfully gave a high-five to Dan, whose face was covered in dust.

"Look, Daddy, Uncle Dan succeeded in taming a dragon!" Daenerys happily hugged Rhaegor's neck. "Daddy, when can I tame a dragon?"

"You'll have to wait until you're as big as Aunt Valenna," Daniela said gently.

"What are you waiting for, go for a ride!" At this moment, Serena's shout rang out again. "Are you going to wait until our brother urges you?"

Dan waved his hand, "No need, Syrax, take off!"

Syrax paused, then looked back at its companion with confusion.

Only then did Dan realize he had forgotten to switch languages, and he quickly shouted in High Valyrian.

"Take off!"

Only then did Syrax crawl towards the cave entrance under Valenna's joyful gaze, and leaped down.

The next moment.

The dark green dragon soared into the sky, letting out a deafening roar.

The Varezes family had gained another dragon knight.

Meanwhile.

The Targaryen family's party.

Viserys looked at Aegon with an expressionless face.

"Aegon, tell me, which dragon is your target this time?"

Aegon looked at his father with a helpless expression. So what if he had at least three bastards? Was it really necessary to force his son to do such an offending thing?

But he could only answer firmly.

"Vermax, Father, I will bring it back to the family."
