Chapter 2 - Episode 2 — Blood Awakening

Steel rang against stone.

Marcus moved first.

The moment the vampires stepped onto the estate grounds, his sword flashed from beneath his coat like lightning. He moved with the kind of speed that only came from decades of training—calculated, efficient, deadly.

The first vampire barely had time to react.

The blade cut through his shoulder, sending him stumbling backward into the gravel.

But the others didn't retreat.

They smiled.

"Still protecting the girl?" the leader said calmly.

His voice carried the quiet confidence of someone who already knew how the night would end.

Marcus didn't respond.

Instead, he shifted his stance slightly, positioning himself between Elara and the approaching figures.

"Elara," he said under his breath, "stay behind me."

But Elara couldn't move.

The energy inside her veins was roaring now.

It felt like a storm building inside her body.

Her heartbeat thudded loudly in her ears.

Something was waking up.

The vampire leader watched her carefully.

"You feel it, don't you?" he said.

Elara's hands trembled slightly.

"What did you do to me?"

The vampire chuckled.

"We didn't do anything."

His eyes flicked toward the sky.

"The eclipse did."

Behind him, the other vampires spread out slowly, forming a loose circle around the courtyard.

Predators closing in.

Marcus tightened his grip on his sword.

"They're testing you," he muttered to Elara.

"Testing what?"

"Whether you're worth taking alive."

The words landed like a cold weight in her chest.

Alive?

"So they can drain me or something?" she asked.

Marcus didn't answer.

That silence told her enough.

The vampire leader sighed.

"Marcus Vale," he said.

"It's been a long time."

Marcus's eyes narrowed.

"You know my name."

"Oh, we know many things."

The vampire tilted his head slightly, studying Elara again.

"We've been waiting for this night."

Elara felt anger push through the fear.

"You're talking like I'm some kind of prize."

The vampire's smile widened.

"You are."

Before she could respond—

He vanished.

Elara blinked.

The space where he stood was suddenly empty.

"Behind you!" Marcus shouted.

Too late.

A cold hand grabbed Elara's wrist.

She gasped as the vampire leader appeared beside her like a shadow stepping out of nowhere.

His grip was strong—unnaturally strong.

Up close, his eyes glowed like burning coals.

"Relax," he whispered near her ear.

"I just want to see something."

His other hand reached toward her throat.

Marcus lunged.

The sword cut through the air with brutal force.

The vampire released Elara instantly and leapt backward, landing lightly several feet away.

"Careful," he said.

"You might kill someone important."

Marcus didn't hesitate.

He charged again.

The courtyard exploded into motion.

Steel clashed against claws.

Two vampires rushed Marcus from opposite sides.

He spun, blade flashing, forcing them back with precise strikes.

Elara stumbled away from the fight, her chest heaving.

Her heart was pounding harder than ever.

The energy inside her veins surged violently.

Something inside her body didn't want her to run.

It wanted her to fight.

Her hands lifted slowly.

The dark mist from earlier returned, swirling around her fingers like smoke pulled by gravity.

She stared at it.

"What is this power…?"

The vampire leader watched from across the courtyard.

His expression shifted from amusement to fascination.

"Well now."

Elara clenched her fist instinctively.

The mist condensed instantly.

For a moment, it formed something solid—

A dark blade of pure shadow.

Her breath caught.

She hadn't even meant to do that.

Marcus noticed.

"Elara!" he shouted.

But another vampire lunged at him, forcing him back into the fight.

The leader slowly stepped toward her.

"This is extraordinary," he said.

"Energy shaping already… and you just awakened."

Elara raised the shadow blade toward him.

"Stay away from me."

The vampire stopped a few steps away.

For the first time, he looked genuinely interested.

"You don't even know what you are yet."

"Then explain it."

The vampire chuckled.

"Where's the fun in that?"

He moved again.

This time Elara was ready.

The moment he appeared in front of her—

She swung.

The shadow blade sliced through the air.

The vampire barely dodged in time, the edge grazing his cheek.

A thin line of blood appeared on his pale skin.

He touched it slowly.

Then laughed.

"You drew blood."

His eyes gleamed with excitement.

"Marcus, you didn't tell her she'd be this entertaining."

Marcus kicked one vampire away and stepped closer to Elara again.

"Stop playing games," Marcus growled.

The leader wiped the blood away with his thumb.

"Oh, I'm not playing."

His gaze returned to Elara.

"I'm observing."

The other vampires stepped back slightly now.

No longer circling.

Watching.

Elara's breathing slowed as she steadied the shadow blade in her hand.

The energy inside her body felt more stable now.

Like it was responding to her focus.

The vampire leader noticed.

"Interesting," he murmured.

"You're adapting already."

Elara glared at him.

"You came here to kidnap me."

He shrugged.

"That was the original plan."

Her stomach tightened.

"Original?"

His smile turned sharper.

"But now I'm thinking something else."

Marcus raised his sword again.

"You're leaving."

The leader ignored him.

His eyes stayed on Elara.

"Tell me something," he said.

"Do you know what happens to people who awaken during the Shadow Eclipse?"

Elara didn't answer.

The vampire leaned slightly closer.

"They become the center of the supernatural world."

A cold chill ran down her spine.

"What does that mean?"

"It means every vampire clan… every hunter organization… every ancient faction that still exists…"

His voice lowered.

"…is going to start looking for you."

The courtyard fell silent.

Even the other vampires looked uneasy.

Elara's grip tightened on the shadow blade.

"Why?"

The vampire's smile returned.

"Because people like you rewrite history."

Marcus stepped forward again.

"You're done talking."

The vampire sighed dramatically.

"Fine."

He glanced toward the sky.

The eclipse was beginning to move again.

The red ring slowly shrinking.

"Tonight was only a test anyway."

Marcus's eyes narrowed.

"You're leaving?"

"For now."

The vampire leader took a step back.

But before disappearing, he looked at Elara one last time.

"You survived your awakening."

His voice was calm.

"But surviving the world that comes after it…"

His eyes glowed brighter.

"…is a completely different game."

Then he vanished.

The other vampires melted into the forest moments later.

Silence returned to the estate.

Elara stood frozen in the courtyard, the shadow blade slowly dissolving into mist.

Her body still hummed with strange energy.

Marcus lowered his sword slowly.

The eclipse above them faded.

The normal moon returned.

But nothing about the night felt normal anymore.

Marcus exhaled heavily.

"Elara…"

She turned toward him.

"What did he mean?"

Marcus looked toward the forest where the vampires had disappeared.

Then back at her.

"The war just started."

Elara felt the power in her veins stir again.

And deep down—

She knew he was right.
