The moment she saw them awake, her face lit instantly.
"My baby," she whispered emotionally.
Maya smiled immediately.
"Ma."
Her mother crossed the room quickly before leaning down to kiss Maya's forehead gently.
Then she turned toward the bassinet.
And absolutely melted.
"Oh, God," she whispered, hand flying to her chest dramatically. "Look at this child. Look at this tiny face."
"She's been looking at her for twenty minutes already," Reid said quietly.
Maya's mother ignored him entirely.
"Of course I have. She is perfection."
Then her sharp eyes narrowed toward Reid.
"Have you slept?"
"Yes."
"That was not a real answer."
Reid looked mildly offended by the accusation.
"I closed my eyes."
Maya narrowed her gaze from where she rested against the mountain of hospital pillows, her voice still rough from exhaustion.
"For how long?"
A pause.
His expression became noticeably more evasive.
"…briefly."
