Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 – A Dangerous Attraction

The mansion was quiet that night.

Lina sat in her room, staring at the ceiling, trying to make sense of everything.

Adrian's words from the study echoed in her mind:

"It will get worse."

She shivered. He had been right.

The threats, the intruder… this wasn't a normal marriage.

It was a battlefield.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps outside her door.

Before she could react, the door opened.

Adrian Black stood there.

His presence alone made the air feel heavier, tighter.

"You're still awake," he said calmly.

Lina looked at him warily.

"Yes… I couldn't sleep."

He stepped inside, closing the door behind him.

"You need rest," he said quietly.

"Tomorrow will be worse."

Lina frowned.

"Why are you here?"

Adrian didn't answer immediately. He walked closer.

She felt her heart skip a beat.

His gaze locked onto hers, dark and unreadable.

"You need to understand something," he said finally.

"This contract… our marriage… it's not just a piece of paper. It's real. And it's dangerous."

"I know," Lina whispered.

"I understand more than you think."

Adrian studied her for a long moment.

Then he stepped closer.

"You're not just my wife by contract," he said softly.

"You're part of my life now. Part of my… world."

Lina's chest tightened.

Part of his world… the way he said it made her feel something she couldn't define.

Something dangerous.

The following morning, Lina accompanied Adrian to a company gala.

She wore a sleek black gown, hair perfectly styled.

Every eye in the room turned toward them.

Whispers followed their every step.

The press, the staff, the competitors—they all knew this marriage wasn't ordinary.

Adrian guided her to the main hall.

His hand rested lightly on her lower back.

Not a protective gesture… more like a claim.

Lina felt her cheeks heat up.

Her heart beat faster than usual.

As they approached the stage, a familiar figure appeared in the crowd.

It was Victoria, Adrian's former fiancée.

Her gaze sharpened the moment she saw Lina.

A flash of jealousy, thinly veiled behind a professional smile.

Adrian noticed immediately.

He didn't say a word but stepped closer to Lina, his body brushing against hers.

A subtle but clear warning: she belonged to him.

Lina felt a surge of something she hadn't expected—pride mixed with fear.

The feeling of being protected… claimed… by someone so dangerous… it was intoxicating.

The gala began, and reporters asked questions nonstop.

"Mr. Black, how does it feel to have a new wife?"

"Mrs. Black, will this marriage affect your business decisions?"

Adrian handled each question with ease.

But Lina noticed how he subtly positioned himself, keeping her in view, shielding her from scrutiny.

Every glance, every subtle touch, made her pulse race.

When a reporter asked about Victoria, Adrian's expression hardened.

"She is part of the past. I focus on the present."

Lina's stomach twisted. She realized that Adrian's presence wasn't just controlling—it was possessive.

And somehow, it made her feel… safe.

Later, when the gala ended, Adrian escorted Lina back to the mansion.

The car ride was silent, but charged with tension.

Finally, Lina broke the quiet.

"Why are you so… intense all the time?"

Adrian glanced at her, dark eyes unreadable.

"I don't trust easily," he said simply.

"Not in business. Not in life. And certainly not with anyone who could get hurt."

Lina's heart thudded.

"You… care about me?" she asked softly.

His expression didn't change immediately.

Then, for the first time, a flicker of something softer appeared in his eyes.

"Yes," he admitted quietly.

"But don't mistake that for weakness."

Lina felt a strange thrill.

The man who terrified her… cared about her.

Even if he wouldn't say it out loud.

Back at the mansion, the tension didn't fade.

Lina entered her room, trying to calm herself.

Adrian followed, standing by the doorway.

"I need to know something," he said quietly.

"You can't hide anything from me in this house. Not now. Not ever."

"What?" Lina asked.

"Do you trust me?"

She hesitated.

Part of her wanted to scream: No! I don't trust you!

Another part… wanted to admit: Yes… I do.

Finally, she whispered,

"I… I think I do."

Adrian stepped closer, and for a moment, the world outside ceased to exist.

He wasn't the cold, untouchable businessman from the office or the press.

He was… real. Dangerous, yes… but real.

Lina felt her chest tighten.

The pull between them was undeniable.

A mix of fear, attraction, and something she couldn't name.

And then, before she could react, Adrian leaned slightly closer.

Their faces were inches apart.

The tension was unbearable.

A knock at the door broke the moment.

Both of them turned.

It was the maid.

"Dinner is ready, Mr. Black. Mrs. Black."

Adrian stepped back, his dark gaze still on Lina.

"Tonight, we eat together. But remember…" he said quietly.

"Outside this room, we are still playing the game. Inside… we are alone."

Lina nodded, heart still racing.

She realized one thing clearly:

This year wasn't just a contract.

It was a battle of control, desire, and secrets.

And she had already lost… her heart, even if she refused to admit it.

Lina realizes her attraction to Adrian is growing despite herself.

Victoria, the former fiancée, is already a looming threat.

The line between control and desire is blurring.

Their "contract marriage" is becoming far more complicated than either of them expected.
