Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 – The Secret Pregnancy

Emily sat quietly in the hotel room.

The pregnancy test was still lying on the table.

Two red lines.

Clear.

Unmistakable.

She stared at it for a long time, unable to move.

Pregnant.

She was carrying Alexander Carter's child.

A bitter smile slowly appeared on her lips.

"What terrible timing…"

Just a few hours ago, she had signed the divorce agreement.

Now, she was no longer Alexander's wife.

Yet the child growing inside her belonged to him.

Emily gently placed her hand over her stomach.

Her heart felt complicated.

For three years, she had loved Alexander silently.

Even when he was cold.

Even when he ignored her.

Even when she knew his heart belonged to someone else.

But now…

Everything had ended.

Emily closed her eyes slowly.

She knew one thing very clearly.

Alexander Carter must never know about this child.

If he knew…

Things would become much more complicated.

And she didn't want to tie him down with a child.

That would only make their relationship even more painful.

"I'll raise you myself," she whispered softly.

Her voice was gentle.

But determined.

Suddenly, her phone rang.

Emily looked at the screen.

It was her father.

She hesitated for a moment before answering.

"Dad."

"Emily, where are you?" her father asked immediately.

"I heard from the Carter family lawyer that you and Alexander signed the divorce papers today!"

Emily sighed quietly.

News traveled fast.

"Yes," she replied calmly.

There was silence on the other side.

Then her father's voice suddenly became anxious.

"How could this happen? If the Carter family withdraws their support, our company will collapse!"

Emily closed her eyes.

Even now…

Her father's first concern was still the company.

Not her.

"Don't worry," she said quietly.

"The Carter Group will continue the cooperation."

Her father sounded relieved.

"That's good… that's good…"

Then he added quickly.

"Emily, maybe you should talk to Alexander again. After all, you were married for three years. Maybe there is still a chance—"

"No."

Emily interrupted him.

Her voice was calm but firm.

"There is no chance."

Three years had already proven everything.

Alexander Carter would never love her.

And she no longer wanted to wait for a love that would never come.

After ending the call, Emily looked at the city lights outside the window.

A new life was beginning.

But this time…

She would live it for herself.

And for the child.

Meanwhile, inside the Carter Group headquarters.

Alexander Carter sat in his office late at night.

The entire building was almost empty.

But he still hadn't gone home.

For some reason, the house suddenly felt… strange.

Too quiet.

Emily used to wait for him every night.

Even if he returned very late.

She would still leave the lights on.

But tonight…

There would be no one waiting anymore.

Alexander frowned slightly.

Why was he even thinking about this?

Just then, his assistant knocked on the door.

"Mr. Carter."

"Yes?"

"The engagement dinner with Miss Sophia has been arranged for next week."

Alexander nodded.

"Alright."

But after the assistant left, he suddenly remembered something.

Emily's calm face when she signed the divorce papers.

No tears.

No anger.

No pleading.

Just calm acceptance.

For some reason, that memory made him feel strangely uneasy.
