Chapter 2 - System Initialized

Xemburg City, Monolith Central Hospital, Year XX30

"How is he doing, Doctor?"

Inside the hospital in a certain room, Maureen sat beside Aegon, her expression dark and pale as she asked the doctor.

"He is still alive, that's all I can say." the doctor replied with a solemn expression, it was as if she had been doing this job for years and was tired of it.

"I am aware doctor. I mean he is breathing but how come he hasn't woken up yet? Others who were affected by the incident are awake and well, why is my brother's own different? It has been a long time."

The doctor let out a long sigh of distress. The pain in her head was serious and although she was a doctor, she was unable to treat herself.

"Yes, it has been three years since your brother went into this state, however we have tried all we could do and there have been no results."

"Even with the latest technology introduced we have still not found a way to wake him up, except we were to use that…"

"No, not that!" Maureen exclaimed.

"As you wish."

The doctor gave a slight bow to Maureen, giving an expression of pity, before adding:

"The only thing we can do is wait, give him more time. Like they say time heals all wounds."

After the doctor said this, she left the room with her assistants, leaving Maureen alone with Aegon on the sick bed.

Maureen leaned closer to Aegon and placed her hand on his forehead. He had completely changed these past years.

Three years ago after a disastrous attack struck the world, everything went into chaos and the world was never the same again.

During that period monsters and mythical creatures poured out from several rifts and attacked the people of the world.

During this attack all hope was lost until brave heroes rose to fight this monster.

They were awakened getting what are known as Talents; which were supernatural powers able to combat these monsters.

These heroes eradicated the monsters. However, a single hole of space tore open in every part of the city leading to a world unknown.

After the monsters were gone, those who were victims of the incident and were still alive were taken to the hospital for care, and Aegon was among them.

On the first day it happened, after Maureen had noticed what was going on; she immediately left her work place and ran to her house hoping that Aegon would be there safe and sound.

However, when she got home she didn't find him and her heart skipped. It was a painful fact as she had thought Aegon was caught by the incident and had died, but then she heard some survivors were taken to the hospital.

Knowing this, she immediately left for the hospital and ever since she had been visiting Aegon everyday cleaning and taking care of him for the past three years hoping he would once again see the light of day.

In a dark and chill space where no noise was heard, nothing could be seen, and life didn't seem to exist; a question arose.

'Where am I?'

It was the consciousness of a human being, a person lost in light. Their breath was no more as if they had died, yet they were alive.

'What is going on?'

Aegon felt his body spinning as that was the last thing he felt before he had passed out. It felt like he was dead.

Like his soul was no longer in his body, only his consciousness drifting in an empty space.

'Did I die?'

His thoughts came to this question but there was no one or thing to answer him. He felt trapped and alone.

However, at this moment a chime sounded and his head felt like it was going to explode.

Hearing this sound, Aegon knew one thing in his heart. He wasn't dead. As much as his hearing was working, he wasn't dead.

Suddenly, a bright light shone from within the darkness, it was a mix of blue and black in color, nothing like he'd ever seen.

The light started as a little ray, like that of a single star being born from the darkness. It was beautiful and glorious.

Seeing this, Aegon thought another thing; his sights were working. This was a confirmation.

Next, the light grew brighter and brighter then burst out as particles sprayed everywhere.

After the particles had fallen, a translucent window with writings which resembled that of ancient text appeared in front of Aegon.

[Ding! Condition Met! You Have Obtained the 100X Return System!]

[To Initialize the system host must choose between life of death]

[Which do you choose?]

[Life] or [Death]

Aegon stared in shock as he didn't understand what was going on, his consciousness seemed to have faded into the light.

'System?…' he thought in his heart. 'Does it mean like those I've read about?'

At the moment, Aegon was in a life of death situation, as he could feel his consciousness drifting away.

This was the power he was talking about after his transmigration and now it had come, was he going to leave it and die?

No way.

'I choose life, I choose to live and see all through, I can not leave Maureen alone by herself.'

At the mention of life, the system window instantly changed.

[Ding! You have Accepted Life]

[Bringing Host Back to the Living…]

[Ding! You Are Not One With The World.]

[100X Return System Active… for use a Requirement Has To Be Met!]

As the window gave the information, Aegon's vision began to clear during every breath as if every view was being put together by lights of bytes.

Suddenly, his vision became clear enough and he could see what was before him.

"Where am I?"

Curious, Aegon raised himself up, sitting upright on the bed.

"Am I… in a hospital bed?"

CRACK!

As the words left his lips, a crack sound was heard and Aegon's attention was immediately drawn.

At his left he turned, and there was a nurse who was about to enter the room, but had suddenly dropped the tray she was holding due to the shock of seeing Aegon's movement.

At this moment, the young nurse bowed and sprinted out of the room calling the name of the doctor and another.

'What was that about?' he thought in his heart.

Aegon turned away and stared down at his hands, they weren't the same as how he saw them when he transmigrated, this time they were more mature.

"What's going on?"

Aegon was about to think through it, when he felt a string of something fall down on his shoulders.

"Hm?"

His right hand went to his right shoulder and grabbed what it was, then he noticed.

It was his hair.

"How is my hair so long?…"

Just as he was about to react, he heard a familiar voice call his name.

"Aegon…"

Aegon's neck turned to his left and there she was, a young and beautiful lady standing in a red t-shirt and blue jeans.

She was Maureen.

Her eyes were full of tears, not of sadness but of joy. Without hesitation, she ran to Aegon and gave him a warm hug.

Aegon was shocked at first of who she was, but after his memories had adjusted and with her familiar voice he knew this was his elder sister.

But why does she look older?

The question hung in his heart but thought it could wait, as he embarrassed his sister having the feeling like he hadn't seen her for a very long time.

The day went by and Aegon was discharged from the hospital even though the doctors insisted on him staying for a while so they could run some tests.

No he has been here for so long, I will not have him stay another day when he his awake.

Was what Maureen told the doctors before leaving with Aegon.

Although they couldn't be blamed after all, seeing a person wake up from a slumber of three years was indeed a shock to them.

_

Aegon landed at his house however it was completely different from how he remembered it.

While they were in the hospital, Maureen had informed him of how much time he had spent in his slumber and how much things had changed.

On their way, Aegon saw how that was indeed true. The low infrastructure of the city before was not booming with high technology, even more advanced than modern earth.

'And this was all gotten from the event, three years ago?'

Aegon had already settled down and washed himself. During his time at the hospital his sister had only used certain techniques to clean his body so hasn't had a proper bath for years.

Although their new house was fancy and well equipped compared to their previous one, Aegon felt a bit uneasy.

Even after he asked his sister about it she just told him it was a gift. But why would someone give another person a gift such as this?

The question hung in Aegon's mind and while he was about to sit down and eat, the bell of the apartment rang.

Aegon quickly stood up for it, and as he opened the door a six foot man with a solid face stood before him in a pink shirt.

Aegon was confused as to who it was as he didn't know his sister to have any friends. So who was this man?

At this point, the man before him said:

"Oh you must be Aegon. I'm Reynold, it's nice to meet you."

Reynold stretched out his right hand for a shake and at this moment, Aegon just knew… this man was bad news.
