Chapter 7 - chapter 7: poison reveal

Slowly, Yue Ling opened her eyes.

For a moment she felt dizzy, her head still aching from the intense pain earlier. She blinked several times and looked around.

The white hall was still there.

The floating screens.

The quiet endless space.

Her eyes widened.

"Wait… I'm still here?"

She quickly sat up.

"Didn't I faint? Why am I still in this virtual room?"

The familiar mechanical voice of the system answered calmly.

"Host, you have not completed the emergency mission yet. Therefore, the training cannot end."

Yue Ling's expression darkened immediately.

"What the hell mission?! I'm dying here! I don't want to study anymore!"

The system replied without emotion.

"Host, if you do not complete the mission, your survival rate will drop to zero."

She froze.

"…What?"

"You will die."

The words were simple, but the meaning was heavy.

Yue Ling rubbed her forehead in frustration.

"This stupid system… forcing me to study even when I'm about to die…"

The system spoke again.

"If you must complete it to survive, why not try?"

Yue Ling sighed dramatically.

"Fine. Fine! I'll do it."

At that moment the old man appeared again.

The moment Yue Ling saw him, she almost screamed.

"WHAT?! You again?!"

The old man frowned.

"What is that reaction? Do you dislike your teacher so much?"

"Yes!" she replied immediately.

The old man snorted.

"Ungrateful child."

He waved his sleeve, and a new screen appeared.

"You have already learned about medical tools and basic body knowledge. Now we will proceed to the fifth module — understanding how to perform basic treatment methods."

Yue Ling leaned back tiredly.

"Just say what you want me to do…"

The old man pointed to a virtual patient whose arm had a deep cut.

"First lesson: how to clean wounds."

Medical tools appeared in front of her.

"Before treating a wound," the old man explained seriously, "you must clean it properly to prevent infection."

He demonstrated slowly.

"Use clean water or antiseptic. Remove dirt carefully. Then apply pressure if bleeding continues."

He looked at her.

"Now you try."

Yue Ling reluctantly walked forward.

"Ugh… this looks disgusting."

"Stop complaining."

She followed his instructions carefully.

Cleaning the wound.

Applying antiseptic.

Wrapping the bandage.

The old man nodded slightly.

"Not bad."

More scenarios appeared.

A patient with fever.

A person with dehydration.

A small child with a sprained ankle.

She practiced again and again.

"How do you reduce fever?" the old man asked.

"Cool the body, give fluids, and monitor temperature," Yue Ling answered.

"And if someone is bleeding heavily?"

"Apply pressure to the wound and stop blood loss first."

She repeated the process over and over.

Bandaging.

Cleaning wounds.

Hydration treatment.

Minor injury care.

After countless attempts, she finally did everything smoothly.

The old man clapped slowly.

"Very good. You have completed the fifth module."

Yue Ling collapsed onto the floor dramatically.

"Finally…"

But the old man calmly continued.

"Now we begin the sixth module — understanding common medicines and their uses."

She immediately sat up.

"What?! There's still more?!"

"Yes."

He began explaining again.

"In medicine, knowing treatments is not enough. You must also understand the medicines themselves."

He showed several pills and bottles.

"These are painkillers. They reduce pain."

Another bottle appeared.

"These are antibiotics. They fight bacterial infections."

Yue Ling frowned.

"So… we must know when to give them?"

"Exactly."

He continued teaching.

Antipyretics for fever.

Antiseptics for wounds.

Hydration solutions for dehydration.

"What happens if medicine is used incorrectly?" he asked.

"It could harm the patient," Yue Ling answered.

"Correct."

He gave her many tests.

"What medicine helps reduce fever?"

"What medicine prevents infection in wounds?"

"What is used to relieve pain?"

Yue Ling answered most of them correctly.

Finally the old man nodded.

"You have passed."

Yue Ling stood up excitedly.

"Only one left right?!"

"Yes," he said seriously.

"The final module."

She stretched her arms.

"Good. Let's finish this fast."

The old man's expression suddenly became strict.

"This last one is the most important principle in all of medicine."

The screen changed again.

"Hygiene and infection prevention."

Yue Ling tilted her head.

"That sounds simple."

The old man shook his head.

"No. Many people die because doctors ignore hygiene."

He demonstrated carefully.

"How to sterilize tools."

"How to wash hands properly."

"How to prevent infection when treating wounds."

"How to safely dispose contaminated materials."

"In medicine," he said firmly, "cleanliness saves lives."

Yue Ling followed his instructions carefully.

Washing.

Sterilizing.

Bandaging safely.

Preventing contamination.

After finishing several tests, the old man finally smiled.

"Well done."

A notification appeared in front of her.

Congratulations Host

Basic Medicine Knowledge Completed

Yue Ling raised her fist in victory.

"Yes! Finally!"

The system spoke again.

"Reward granted: Body Health Recovery +5%"

Yue Ling's face froze.

"…Only five percent?"

"I studied for hours! It felt like months!"

The system replied calmly.

"Host, do not worry. Time inside the virtual space flows differently than the outside world."

She blinked.

"Really?"

"Yes."

She sighed in relief.

"Good… I thought years had passed."

Then she suddenly remembered something.

"Wait… what was the emergency mission about anyway?"

The system paused for a moment before answering.

"Host, although you have started a new life, your current body condition is extremely weak."

Yue Ling waved her hand lazily.

"I know. Don't worry. I'll just stay home, be lazy, eat snacks, and relax."

The system spoke again.

"That will not be possible."

"Why?"

"Because the system has detected that this body has been poisoned."

Yue Ling blinked.

"Oh."

She stayed calm.

The system sounded confused.

"Host… are you not worried?"

She shrugged.

"I already guessed."

"…How?"

"What's so mysterious about it?" she said casually. "In novels it's always like this. Swapped babies, enemies, secret poisons, evil relatives… typical story stuff."

The system paused.

"…Host is surprisingly intelligent."

"Of course," she said proudly. "Who do you think I am?"

Then her expression slowly changed.

"Wait… since when was this body poisoned?"

The system answered quietly.

"Based on system scans… the poison has existed since birth."

Her eyes widened.

"What?!"

"Long-term poisoning has severely damaged the body."

Yue Ling clenched her fists.

"Who the hell poisons a baby?!"

She gritted her teeth angrily.

"Even villains shouldn't be that cruel…"

The system spoke again.

"That is why the original host suffered periodic pain outbreaks."

Yue Ling remembered the girl's childhood memories.

The screaming.

The pain.

The loneliness.

Her expression slowly darkened.

"So someone poisoned her since birth…"

Her voice became cold.

"And no one noticed."

A sharp anger rose inside her chest.

For the first time—

She felt genuine rage for the girl whose body she now lived in.
