The practical test finally ended.
"For now, you're dismissed. Results tomorrow," the PT teacher announced.
Reh San let out a long breath.
I survived…
For the first time, he hadn't finished last in the race.
A small smile appeared on his face.
Maybe… I'm improving.
When he reached home, the familiar weak voice greeted him.
"Welcome back, son"
"Mom… how are you feeling today?"
"I'm better," she replied softly.
His younger brother ran toward him.
"Brother! You're back!"
"How was school?" Reh asked.
"It was good! What about yours?"
"…Mine too," Reh answered with a faint smile
During dinner, Reh looked around.
"Dad didn't come again?"
His mother lowered her eyes.
"No… and we're almost out of money."
Silence filled the room.
Reh tightened his grip on the spoon.
"I'll find a part-time job," he said quietly.
His mother's eyes became wet.
"This house survives because of you… and at such a young age you're carrying everything… because of me."
Reh shook his head immediately.
"It's not your fault, Mom. Maybe… this is just my fate."
He forced a smile.
"Let's eat."
