The Long Story: Season 1
The Celestial Conflict in Goloka
The story begins in Goloka, the eternal spiritual abode of Lord Krishna and Radha. The atmosphere is filled with bliss, music, and divine light. However, a shadow falls over this paradise when Sridama, a fervent devotee of krishna, arrives. Sridama, a fervent devotee of Krishna, arrives. Sridama is a "pure devotee" who believes that devotion (Bhakti) should be directed solely toward Krishna and that Radha's presence is a distraction.
When he sees Radha and Krishna together, his ego and misunderstanding lead him to disrespect Radha. He belives that because she is a women and "emotional," she is inferior to the spiritual power of Krishna.
The Curse
Krishna tries to explain to Sridama that Radha is not separate from him-she is his Hladini Shakti (interal pleasure potency). But Sridama remains stubborn. In a fit of misguided protective rage for Krishna, Sridama curses Radha to descend to Earth (Mrityulok) as a human.
• The conditions of the curse are severe: She will live for 100 years on Earth and, most painfully, she will forget Krishna and her divine origin entirely.
The Divine Acceptance
Radha accepts the curse with grace, but Krishna, unwilling to let her face the world alone, decides to descend with her. He promises that while she might forget him, he will spend his earthly life making her remember their love, thereby teaching the entire world the true meaning of selfless love.
The Earthly Births
The scene shifts from the golden light of Goloka to the dark, stormy night on Earth.
• In Mathura: Krishna is born in the prison of the tyrant King Kansa to Devaki and Vasudev. To protect him from Kansa, Vasudev carries in infant across the raging Yamuna River to Gokul, where he is awapped with the daughter of Nanda and Yashoda.
• In Barsana: Radha is born to Vrishbhanu and Kirtida. However, a miracle occurs-the new born Radha refuses to open her eyes. Her parents are devastated, fearing she is blind.
The Reunion
The climax of the episode occurs when the infant Krishna is brought near the infant Radha. The moment Krishna's presence is felt, Radha finally opens her eyes for the first time. Her first sight in the mortal world is not her parents or the world around her, but the face of her Krishna. This establishes the theme of the series: Radha sees only Krisna, and the world only through him.
