Chapter 1 - kaki

After his wife's death, Vishweshwar used to be "absent-minded". "Okay, I'll order it," he would say, and wander off somewhere with a sad expression.

Shyamu was very eager for a kite. He could not control his wish. Vishweshwar's coat was hanging on a peg in one place. Looking here and there, he moved a stool, climbed up, and rummaged through the coat pockets. Discovering a four-anna coin in one of them, he immediately ran away from there.

Bhola, the son of the maid Sukhiya, was Shyamu's friend of the same age. Shyamu gave him the four-anna coin and said, "Ask your sister-in-law to secretly order a kite and string. Look, bring it all alone, so no one finds out."

The kite arrived. The string started to be tied to it in a dark room. Shyamu slowly said, "Bhola, if you don't tell anyone, can I tell you something?"

Bhola shook his head and said, "No, I won't tell anyone."

Shyamu nodded his head and said, "I will send this kite up to Ram's place. Auntie will come down holding it. I don't know how to write, otherwise I would write her name on it."

Bhola was more sensible than Shyamu. He said, "The idea is very good, but there is a difficulty. This string is thin. Auntie cannot come down holding it. There is a fear of it breaking. If there is a thick rope on the kite, everything will be fine."

Shyamu became serious. This meant that an idea worth a hundred thousand rupees had been suggested, but the difficulty was how to order a thick rope. He had no money, and the people of the house who had cremated his auntie without any mercy or compassion would not give him anything for this work. That day Shyamu could not sleep until late at night due to worry.

Using the trick from the first day, the next day he took out one rupee from Vishweshwar's coat. He took it to Bhola and said, "Look Bhola, don't let anyone know. Order two good ropes. One rope will be too short. I will get 'Auntie' written on a piece of paper by Jawahar brother. With the name slip, the kite will reach only her."
