Chapter 2 - Fluorescent White

Stretching my hand out, a dense heat began to form.

Erupting into a small, controlled dark red flame. "Toasty, roasty, extra bright, Turn this fool to extra burnt barbecue tonight! EXPLOOODING FIREBALL!!!-"

"Wake up! Ulric!"

"…"

"Another beautiful day for harvesting potatoes. Get up and ready!"

"…"

I've been in this world for two weeks already.

Being brought to a fantasy world hasn't really gone how I expected it to.

Wasn't I supposed to be given some kind of system to be overpowered and become the strongest?

Instead of shooting fireballs and magic spells that can destroy cities. I've been harvesting potatoes for the past two weeks.

After living in this world for two weeks, I quickly realized that I was in the world of Frieren.

Since the demon king is still around, that means Himmel and Frieren still haven't defeated the Demon King.

Which means I'm currently in the Demon era of this world.

After my mother was murdered, my father got into the farming business. Even though he's been doing this for years, selling our potatoes to nearby cities isn't doing us any good.

We're dirt poor.

Great, not only am I not a magical prodigy, I'm also dirt poor to go with it.

But after spending most of my time with my father, I can tell that he truly cares for me. My father's name is Brenner, and I'm glad I have someone like him who's always kind to me. Having him with me made me realize, I'm not alone in this world.

The day went similar to the last two weeks of my life here.

Wake up, put on the Same dirty clothes as yesterday. Then work on the potatoes until sunset.

Having no source of entertainment really makes you realize how spoiled and lucky I was to have internet and WiFi in my previous life.

Walking back to his wooden shack, some would call a home, but he preferred the word shack.

Ulric felt it.

A sensation in the deepest part of his body calling out to him.

He turned towards the direction it felt the strongest.

He could feel it growing and growing the more he walked towards the forest.

Standing at the edge of the tree lines, Ulric made his decision.

You know what they say, curiosity kills the cat. But you got me. I'm curious on what this feeling is.

Tonight…I'll go tonight.

When the village is asleep, I'll go.

Later that night, after sneaking out of bed and making sure his father was asleep. Ulric made his way towards this feeling. Letting the strong sensation in his body lead him to his destination.

Unknown to anyone around, above in the night sky. With wings spread and two small horns on top of its head. Was something that looked human, but wasn't.

With his golden eyes, he stared directly below him. Where a small village stood.

"I'm bored" he said, slowly descending towards the sleeping village. "Guess I'll kill them."

Ulric, with a small candle he brought with him, was already deep into the forest.

He knew doing something like this was dangerous. Especially with how weak he is, if something jumped at him, there would be no tomorrow.

But he just couldn't resist the sensation.

The feeling was intoxicating.

After many minutes had passed and many more times of Ulric nearly tripping over his own feet, he reached it.

A tall, thick tree.

It looked as if it had been here for centuries. No other trees could compare to it. With holes that kinda created a creepy looking face at its center.

"It's pretty obvious whatever this feeling is, has something to do with this mammoth of a tree."

After a moment of waiting, nothing happened. Confusion took over Ulric, he chose to investigate the mammoth of a tree.

Ulric walked around it about three times, nothing.

He started climbing up branches. Immediately falling onto his back, as the branches couldn't support his weight.

"What the hell?" Ulric said, realizing something. "This tree…This tree is dead?"

"How can a tree with fresh green summer leaves be dead?"

Without another single breath…It grew.

Not the mammoth tree.

A small stem started to grow and glow from the right hole in the tree.

Making it look like a glowing right eyeball.

Ulric felt it instantly, the sensation and feeling from earlier rise up to the max, making his heart start to beat faster.

"There's no going back now. Let's do this."

Inside the hole…was a flower.

A beautiful flower with 7 petals, each a fluorescent white, with a black stem attached. At the center, it looked like a deep and endless black void.

"This is the most beautiful flower I have ever seen."

The feeling of the flower pulling him in settled. For a moment, he hesitated.

Then he grabbed the stem, pulling the beautiful flower free.

One by one, the 7 petals started to slowly wither into green dust.

When the final petal withered away. Only the green dust remained.

The green dust did something he couldn't believe with his own two eyes, it traveled together down the stem and onto his right palm.

Finally reaching his wrist, the green dust stopped, before it burned into his wrist.

"AAHHH!"

The pain was something he couldn't describe even if he wanted to.

Without even a second scream from his mouth, the mammoth tree in front of him and the forest around him disappeared.

Leaving him in an empty black void.

Alone.

"What? What's happening? Where am I?"

A hand grabbed his shoulder.

No. Not a hand…but bone.

Right next to his ear, a voice echoed throughout the empty void.

"Fall."

…..
