Chapter 28 - The Grand Opening

The Dumaguete Supernatural Community Center opened its doors on a Saturday, under a full moon, with 300 creatures and 200 curious humans in attendance.

Glad stood at the entrance, holding a ribbon made of enchanted thread (courtesy of a local engkanto), flanked by Ariel, Kim, and the entire creature gang.

"Ladies, gentlemen, and beings beyond classification," she announced, "welcome to the first community center for supernatural creatures in the Philippines!"

The crowd cheered. Well, mostly cheered—some of the creatures made sounds that weren't quite cheering, but the sentiment was there.

Inside, the building exceeded all expectations. A main hall with high ceilings for flying creatures. Private rooms for shifting. A blood kitchen with state-of-the-art refrigeration. A counseling center for creatures struggling with hiding-related trauma. Even a small café run by Ben, serving creature-friendly snacks to all.

"This is incredible," Professor Kim breathed, taking it all in. "A year ago, this didn't exist. Now it's real."

"Because of you," Glad said. "You believed in me."

"Because you were worth believing in."

Tours ran all day. Humans marveled at the accommodations; creatures marveled at being accommodated. Mang Berting showed up with his grandson and a leche flan. Tita Hanya live-streamed everything, her jealousy transformed into genuine support.

And in the middle of it all, Glad found a moment of quiet.

She stood in the main hall, looking at the community she'd helped build. Creatures of every description, talking, laughing, living openly for the first time.

"Penny for your thoughts?" Ariel appeared beside her, handing her a blood spritzer.

"I was just thinking... I spent 173 years hiding. And now this." She gestured around them. "All because some girl filmed me with her phone."

"Best accidental discovery ever."

"Agreed."

They stood together, watching their community thrive.

Later that night, after the crowds had gone and the building was quiet, Glad flew up to the roof with Anino. The full moon hung overhead, silver and perfect.

"Well, cat," she said, "we did it."

Anino purred.

"I know. We couldn't have done it without you."

He headbutted her affectionately.

Below them, Dumaguete sparkled. Somewhere out there, other creatures were watching, wondering if they could come out too.

Glad hoped they would.

The door was open now.

And it would stay open forever.
