Chapter 9 – Preparing for the Challenge

The next morning, Anshul woke up earlier than usual.

The soft sunlight creeping through the curtains painted his room in a warm golden hue. For a moment he simply lay there, staring at the ceiling as his thoughts slowly gathered.

Yesterday he had received confirmation from the National Student Innovation Challenge.

The competition had officially begun.

And now the real work started.

Anshul sat up and stretched before glancing at the alarm clock beside his bed.

6:10 AM.

Still early.

Perfect.

He walked to the corner of the room where the family's desktop computer stood on a wooden desk. The machine was not new, but it was reliable. His father used it often for legal documents and research.

The monitor hummed quietly as he switched it on.

While the computer slowly booted up, Anshul grabbed a notebook and flipped to a blank page.

At the top he wrote in bold letters:

Competition Preparation Plan

Below that he began listing the tasks he needed to complete.

1. Improve StudyFlow features

2. Fix interface bugs

3. Prepare demonstration video

4. Write technical explanation

5. Gather user feedback

He tapped the pen lightly against the page.

Winning the competition wouldn't be easy.

Hundreds of students across the country would be submitting projects.

Some of them would probably have better resources, better equipment, maybe even teachers helping them.

But Anshul had something they didn't.

Clarity.

He wasn't just building a project for the sake of winning a contest.

This was part of a much larger goal.

San Francisco.

Mia Thermopolis.

The future of Genovia.

The computer finished loading and the familiar desktop screen appeared.

Anshul opened the StudyFlow project files.

The interface popped up.

Clean.

Simple.

Functional.

But there was still room for improvement.

He spent the next two hours refining the software.

Several bugs were fixed.

A new feature allowed students to categorize subjects based on difficulty.

He also improved the weekly progress graph to make it easier to understand.

By the time the clock reached 8:30, he had already completed more work than he normally did in an entire afternoon.

Just then his mother knocked on the door.

"Anshul, breakfast!"

"I'm coming!"

He quickly saved his work and headed downstairs.

The kitchen smelled of fresh parathas and tea.

His grandmother smiled when she saw him.

"You woke up early again."

His grandfather chuckled from the dining table.

"This boy is becoming a workaholic."

Anshul sat down with a small smile.

"Just trying to stay productive."

His father glanced at him over the newspaper.

"That competition you mentioned… when is it?"

"Three weeks," Anshul replied.

His father nodded thoughtfully.

"Well, if you're going to do something, do it properly."

"That's the plan."

After breakfast he grabbed his bag and headed to school.

The moment he entered the classroom, Rahul rushed toward him.

"Bro! Big news!"

Anshul raised an eyebrow.

"What happened?"

Rahul held up a USB drive.

"I showed StudyFlow to my cousin yesterday."

"And?"

"He goes to another school."

Anshul frowned slightly.

"And?"

Rahul grinned widely.

"Now half of his class wants it too."

Anshul paused.

"That's… good."

Rahul stared at him in disbelief.

"That's all you're going to say?"

"What else should I say?"

"You're becoming famous!"

Anshul shook his head.

"It's just a useful program."

But inside, he felt quietly satisfied.

More users meant more feedback.

More feedback meant better improvements.

During lunch break, several students approached him asking about StudyFlow.

Some wanted the software.

Others simply wanted to know how he had built it.

One student even asked if he could join the development.

Anshul politely answered everyone.

But he kept his focus on the bigger goal.

The competition.

Later that afternoon when school ended, he returned home and immediately continued working.

He now needed to prepare a demonstration video explaining how StudyFlow worked.

That part was actually harder than coding.

Explaining ideas clearly required practice.

Anshul placed a small camera on the desk and began recording.

"Hello, my name is Anshul Giri…"

He paused.

"No… that sounded awkward."

He tried again.

"StudyFlow is a software platform designed to help students manage their study time more efficiently…"

Better.

He continued explaining the program's features step by step.

After several attempts, he finally recorded a version that sounded confident and natural.

By evening, the demonstration video was complete.

Anshul leaned back in his chair and stretched.

Another productive day.

Before shutting down the computer, he opened the internet browser one last time.

His fingers moved almost automatically.

Mia Thermopolis.

The familiar school page appeared again.

The same small photograph greeted him.

Messy hair.

Large glasses.

A shy expression.

Anshul studied the picture for a moment.

Somewhere in San Francisco, Mia was probably living another ordinary day.

Completely unaware that her life would soon change forever.

And completely unaware that someone thousands of kilometers away was steadily moving closer to her world.

Anshul closed the browser and turned off the monitor.

The competition was only the first step.

But it was an important one.

Because every step forward brought him closer to the future he had chosen.
