Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: The Fragile Mirror of Friendship

The sun began to set behind the Hokage Rock, casting long, bloody shadows over the empty stadium. While the rest of the village celebrated the new Chunin, Minato Namikaze stood at the edge of the training grounds, waiting.

He heard the soft crunch of sand. Aizen approached, his uniform pristine, his glasses reflecting the dying orange light. He looked exactly like the boy Minato had trained with for years—and yet, completely alien.

"You're late, Sosuke," Minato said, his voice lacking its usual warmth.

Aizen stopped, offering a small, apologetic smile. "Lord Hokage had many questions about my performance. It seems Shisui-kun's recovery will take some time. His mind is... fragile."

Minato turned around, his blue eyes searching Aizen's face. "What did you do to him, Sosuke? I saw his Sharingan. It was active. No Genjutsu in the world should have broken him that easily unless it wasn't a Genjutsu at all."

Aizen walked to the wooden fence, looking out at the village. "The Sharingan is a mirror, Minato-kun. It reflects the heart of the user. If the heart is filled with doubt, the mirror cracks. I simply showed him the cracks."

"Don't lie to me!" Minato's voice cracked like a whip. "That bolt of lightning... you didn't use hand signs. You didn't even gather chakra. It felt like the air itself was screaming. That's not Ninjutsu. Who are you, really?"

The silence that followed was heavy, suffocating. Aizen didn't move, but the atmosphere changed. The birds in the nearby trees suddenly fell silent, and Minato felt a crushing weight settle on his shoulders—the same "Spiritual Pressure" that had paralyzed the Iwa captain.

"Who am I?" Aizen repeated softly. He turned his head slightly, and for a split second, Minato saw it—the violet glow of the Hogyoku behind the lens of Aizen's glasses. "I am the one who decided that this world's 'rules' are nothing more than a cage for the weak."

Minato reached for a kunai, his heart hammering against his ribs. "If you're a threat to the village, Sosuke... if you're working with Orochimaru... I'll have to stop you."

Aizen chuckled, a sound like velvet sliding over stone. "Stop me? With what, Minato-kun? Your speed? Speed is only relevant if you can reach the target. But what if the target you see is merely the dream I've allowed you to have?"

In a flash, Minato moved. He was the "Yellow Flash," faster than sight. He appeared behind Aizen, his kunai inches from Aizen's back. But as the blade struck, Aizen's body shattered like glass.

Minato gasped. He wasn't in the training grounds anymore. He was standing in the middle of a vast, white void. Aizen was standing ten feet away, sitting on an invisible chair, calmly reading a book.

"This is the difference between us, Minato-kun," Aizen said without looking up. "You strive to be the fastest in the world. I am striving to be the one who is the world."

Then, with a snap of his fingers, the void vanished. Minato found himself back at the training grounds. Aizen was gone. Only a single blue flower lay on the ground where he had been standing.

Minato collapsed to his knees, gasping for air. He realized with a terrifying clarity that Aizen could have killed him a thousand times over in that second.

He's not a ninja, Minato thought, his hands trembling. He's something else. Something older. And he's right in the heart of our village.
