Chapter 1 - The Wedding That Changed Everything

The courtyard of the Mehra house glowed with golden lights. Marigold flowers hung from every doorway, and the soft rhythm of dhol echoed through the evening air. It was the kind of celebration that made neighbors stop and watch from their balconies.

Inside the house, chaos and happiness lived together.

"Aarav! Where are the sweets?" shouted Meera Mehra from the kitchen.

A tall young man rushed past the hall carrying a large tray of laddoos.

"I'm bringing them, Mom! If you shout any louder, the entire colony will hear you," Aarav laughed.

Tonight was not just any celebration. It was the engagement ceremony of Aarav's elder sister, Riya Mehra. Relatives had come from all over the country. The house was full of laughter, gossip, and the sound of bangles clinking.

But for Aarav, the night felt strangely different.

As he stepped into the decorated garden, he noticed someone standing near the fairy lights.

A girl in a soft blue dress.

She was helping Riya adjust her dupatta while smiling gently.

Aarav paused.

"Who is she?" he whispered to his cousin Kabir.

Kabir smirked. "That's Anaya Sharma. Riya's best friend from college. She arrived this morning."

Aarav tried to look away, but his eyes returned to her again.

Something about her presence felt calm… like the quiet moment before rain.

Just then, Riya called out, "Aarav! Come here."

He walked over reluctantly.

"Anaya," Riya said warmly, "this is my younger brother Aarav. The one I keep complaining about."

Anaya laughed softly.

"So you're the famous Aarav. I've heard many stories."

Aarav raised an eyebrow. "Hopefully the good ones."

"Mostly embarrassing ones," she teased.

For a moment, they both smiled.

And in that simple moment—between lights, laughter, and the sound of wedding music—something invisible began.

A connection neither of them understood yet.

Across the garden, Aarav's grandmother watched them carefully.

She smiled to herself.

"Some relationships," she murmured quietly, "are written long before people realize it."

The engagement ceremony began.

But for Aarav and Anaya…

their story had just started.
