Chapter 4 - ) Sneaking At Café

JAY'S POV:

The city was quieter than usual now. My boots echoed with every step. I wasn't supposed to be here. Not following Keifer out of everyone! Not spying like some crazy detective. But I couldn't stop myself.

I crouched behind a corner, peering at the café across the street. And there he was. Keifer. Sitting at a table, casually scrolling on his phone, sipping his damn coffee like nothing mattered. Gago. Calm. Annoying!

I hated him. My chest tightened. My sister was gone..and he was just existing! Urgh!

"Why am I even doing this?" I muttered, mostly to myself.

A shadow moved behind me. Rafael. "Jay," he whispered. "Are you really spying on him again?"

I spun around, my heart jumping out of my throat. Maybe out of the world as well! "Rafael! Don't sneak up on me like that. You are supposed to be my best friend, not some ninja!"

He laughed, "I am concerned. You are letting him get under your skin, and I know for sure he likes it."

I glared at him, "He killed my sister, I have to find the truth and take revenge!"

He raised his eyebrow, smirking slightly. "Or maybe you just want him to notice you."

My jaw dropped. "What did you JUST SAY RIGHT NOW?! You-you- I am going to kill you! Asshole!"

Rafael laughed teasingly. "Calm down, Jay, I was joking..kinda👀. You are to obvious you know. Even when you pretend not to care."

I froze dramatically. I clenched my fists.

"I don't care what you think! Hmph!"

"Sure," he said grinning, and then he pointed toward the café. "Look. He is leaving."

I turned just in time to see Keifer get up, putting his coat over his shoulder, his sharp eyes scanning the street…And then he looked straight at me.

My heart stopped. I tried to put Raefel infront of me to cover me.

Rafael asked. "What are you —"

"Shut up! He saw us! I gotta hide—"

I was cut off my Keifer as he walks out of the café and stops infront of us.

He smirked. That annoying familiar smirk.

"You are following me again?" He asked, his voice calm and teasing.

I stomped my foot. "No! I was just..just passing by!"

Raefel stays quiet. Good as he should!

Keifer raised a single eyebrow. "Right. Because everyone just happens to sneak behind a corner and watch me drink coffee at night."

Heat rose to my cheeks, embarrassed. "I..I—"

"Careful," he said softly as he started to walk toward me. His steps were slow and controlled.

My heart raced. "Or what?" I snapped, my voice loud trying to show that I am not scared! Asshole! Gago!

He stopped a few inches away, his breath hot on my cheek. "Or you will have to admit you like keep me in your sight." He teased.

I gasped. "Wha-I no What?!"

He chuckled, that annoying asshole laugh, "Relax, I am not going anywhere. Not yet."

I couldn't respond. Not because I didn't want to, but because my chest was pounding so hard. Every insitinct screamed that he was dangerous, yet every part of me wanted him closer.

Raefel stood there standing, NOT helping like he should! He gave me a subtle nudge, "Jay..Maybe it's time you stop staring and start listening."

I glared at him annoying. "I am listening!"

Keifer tilted his head, watching me. "You really do hate me this much?"

"Yes," I spat back, firm.

But instead of being hurt, as always, he put in that annoying asshole type smirk!

"Good. Just try not to fall in love with me," he teased with a smile.

I stared at him in disbelief.

This man was impossible!

My sister is dead and here he is flirting with me?!

"You are unbelievable," I muttered. "I would rather die, asshole!"

Keifer laughs as he leaves. "That's what they all say."

Raefel looks there stunned and was about to tease.

I gave him one glare to shut him up from his nonsense!

I kept glaring ahead where Keifer left, but my heartbeat betrayed me.

And for the first, I wonder if I am too close to danger, or too close to finding the truth.
