Chapter 19 - Chapter 19 — The Fog Hides More Than Minions

Raemond's party stood among the fallen minions, their bodies scattered across the damp forest floor. The battle had ended quickly, but the silence that followed felt more unsettling than the fight itself. The fog continued to drift between the trees, concealing everything beyond a short distance.

Raemond crouched beside one of the fallen creatures and drew his sword. With a practiced motion, he drove the blade into its chest to confirm that it was no longer a threat. He withdrew the sword and wiped the blade against the grass before standing.

Noragami watched him carefully, his expression calm but persistent.

"Brother, do you need healing?"

Raemond shook his head.

"No. Save it for later. We're still far from the ruins, and there could be more minions waiting for us."

His voice carried the confidence of someone accustomed to making decisions under pressure.

"We don't waste our resources before reaching the main target."

Noragami nodded. "Understood."

Above them, Erisk had climbed onto one of the larger trees. He stood on a thick branch, one hand resting against the trunk while he surveyed the surrounding forest. The fog made his task difficult, but his position gave him a better view than anyone on the ground.

After several moments, his eyes narrowed.

"Raemond," he called down. "It seems like the remaining minions are all gathered around the ruins."

Raemond looked upward.

"You're certain?"

"I can't see everything through this fog, but there's definitely movement concentrated in that direction."

Intri, who had been standing near the edge of the clearing, suddenly looked toward the opposite side of the forest.

"Erisk," he said, concern entering his voice, "can you see where Asiel's party is?"

Erisk turned his attention toward the eastern side.

"Wait."

He closed his eyes and took a slow breath.

The Kairo within him began to circulate, drawing upon the surrounding air. A faint current of wind gathered around his body before spreading outward through the trees.

For a brief moment, the dense fog was pushed aside.

The forest beyond became visible through the opening, revealing the distant outlines of trees and the faint path stretching toward the eastern boundary.

Erisk's eyes widened.

"Oh…"

Raemond immediately looked up.

"What is it?"

Erisk turned toward them, his expression suddenly serious.

"They're near the eastern border of the forest."

Intri frowned.

"The eastern border? That's far from here."

Erisk nodded slowly.

"And it looks like they've come across…"

His voice trailed off as he continued staring through the temporary opening in the fog.

Raemond tightened his grip around his sword.

"Come across what?"

Erisk's expression hardened.

"I'm not sure yet."

The wind weakened.

The fog began to close around them once again, swallowing the distant view.

And somewhere beyond that wall of mist, Asiel and his companions were facing something they had not expected to find.

Absolutely — I'll make it more continuous and atmospheric, with fewer abrupt sentence breaks and more natural transitions, while keeping the dialogue clearly separated and the scene exactly as you intended.

The rustling in the bushes grew louder.

Asiel immediately tensed, his eyes fixed on the thick vegetation ahead. The fog had already swallowed most of the forest around them, leaving only vague shapes and shadows between the trees. Whatever was moving through the bushes was coming closer, and judging by the sound, it was moving quickly.

Yrion stepped forward and raised his sword. A deep red glow began to spread along the blade as flames gathered around its edge, illuminating his face with a faint crimson light.

"Stay ready," Yrion said quietly.

Behind him, Asiel raised one hand while several small stones lifted from the ground and hovered beside his fingers. Silver stood a little farther back, his palm open as thin currents of Wind Kairo began to gather around it. None of them knew what was about to emerge, but they were prepared to strike the moment it appeared.

The rustling grew louder.

Then louder still.

Suddenly, something white burst out of the bushes at tremendous speed.

"Now!"

Yrion tightened his grip on his sword, Asiel prepared to launch the stones, and Silver gathered his Kairo—

Only for the white figure to stop in the middle of the path.

A small rabbit stared back at them.

For a moment, nobody moved.

The rabbit tilted its head.

Yrion slowly lowered his sword.

"…A rabbit?"

Asiel remained frozen for another second before finally releasing the tension in his shoulders. The stones hovering around his hand dropped gently to the ground, and Silver allowed the Wind Kairo around his palm to disperse.

A long breath escaped Asiel.

"I really thought something was about to attack us."

Yrion sheathed his sword and looked at the rabbit with an exhausted expression.

"I was about to turn that thing into dinner."

Silver gave a quiet sigh.

"And I was preparing a Grade Three spell."

The three of them looked at one another before Asiel shook his head with a faint smile.

"This forest is going to give me a heart attack."

The rabbit, completely unaware of the danger it had narrowly avoided, hopped away and disappeared into the bushes.

The tension finally began to leave the group.

But before Asiel could completely relax, he felt something touch his shoulder.

His body reacted instantly.

A sudden chill ran down his spine, and cold sweat formed across his forehead. Without even thinking, Asiel spun around, his hand moving on instinct as a sharp stone formed within his palm and stopped only inches from the figure's neck.

"—!"

Yrion immediately reached for his sword again, while Silver stepped back and raised his hand, Wind Kairo swirling rapidly around his fingers.

Standing behind Asiel was Noragami.

His expression was completely calm, as though nothing unusual had happened.

Asiel stared at him, his breathing uneven from the sudden shock.

"Noragami…"

Noragami looked at the stone pointed toward him, then calmly raised his eyes toward Asiel.

"Yes?"

Asiel slowly lowered his hand and let the stone crumble into fragments.

"You scared me to death!"

Noragami remained completely composed.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you."

Asiel placed a hand against his chest and took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heartbeat.

"Don't just appear behind someone like that."

Noragami nodded.

"I understand."

Before Asiel could say anything else, movement appeared within the fog behind Noragami.

Several figures slowly emerged from the mist.

Raemond came first, his expression as unreadable as ever. His sword remained secured across his back, and even through the fog, the pressure of his presence was unmistakable. Erisk followed behind him, with Intri close by, and the four of them soon stood together before Asiel's party.

Raemond glanced at Asiel and then at Noragami.

"Easy," he said calmly. "We can't afford to lose our healer."

Asiel exhaled and finally relaxed his stance.

"Yeah… I figured that out."

He looked toward Noragami again, still somewhat irritated from the surprise.

"You really scared me."

Noragami gave the same calm response.

"I apologize. It wasn't intentional."

Yrion, who had been watching the exchange, finally turned his attention toward the rest of Raemond's party.

His expression changed.

"Wait a second."

The others looked toward him.

Yrion frowned.

"Why are you guys here?"

The question immediately changed the atmosphere.

He glanced toward the direction of the ruins and then back at Raemond.

"Weren't you going to the ruins?"

No one answered.

The silence that followed was strangely heavy.

Asiel's eyes moved from Yrion to Raemond, noticing the subtle change in everyone's expressions. Silver also lowered his hand, though he kept his attention fixed on the other party.

Intri looked uneasy. Erisk remained silent.

Noragami simply stood beside Raemond with the same calm expression as before.

And Raemond…

Raemond said nothing at all.

The fog drifted slowly between the trees, curling around the two parties as they stood facing one another.

For several moments, nobody spoke.

The question remained hanging in the air.

Why had Raemond's party returned?

And more importantly, what had they encountered at the ruins?

Asiel could not shake the feeling that whatever had happened, it was something far more serious than a few wandering goblins.

Neither party moved.

Neither party spoke.

And with both groups standing silently within the fog, waiting for someone to break the silence.
