Chapter 2 - Setting The Foundation (Chapter 2)

Christian sighed as he set down his axe to look at the progress he made so far.

He had cut down many of the surrounding trees around him, making the clearing in the middle larger. There were many logs neatly placed on the side, ready to be used to make a small and quick log cabin. The blessings given to Christian allowed him to be granted unlimited energy for intense labor, and the divine axe gave him superhuman strength.

It made him feel amazing to have this power. However, he still was wary of the other living things out there. He was still a human. The other species that existed in the world: dragons, elves, dwarfs, vampires, etc. He did not know how strong they were or how friendly either.

The risk of finding out the latter was not worth it.

It was time now for Christian to start making his log cabin. The area around him was nothing but flat grass in a neat square formation. Around that square formation lay many more trees, which gave his new home some form of secrecy. Beyond those trees, who knew what was there. Christian turned his eyes away from the forest landscape.

He walked over to the logs and started thinking how the heck he was going to do this. He knew some things about construction because his dad in his past life owned a construction company and used to take him around various job sites. Christian was very thankful for his dad.

Christian was very thankful for his mother as well. Her job was not related to gardening, but she loved gardening passionately. His primary bonding time with his mother growing up was spent in the garden learning how to plant various vegetables and decorative flowers, etc.

He got lost in thought for a moment. I wonder how my parents are handling my death in my former life. He thought to himself as he looked at the axe in his hand. Everything happened so suddenly he didn't really have the time to process the conclusion of his past life. The silence drew on for a bit longer until his eyes widened at the sight of the axe changing forms.

In a bright flash, the axe transformed into exactly what he needed to make the grooves and notches in the logs. This divine axe wasn't just an axe, it was a mysterious shape-shifting tool that had abilities to be used for construction and other things.

I wonder what else this thing can do. He pondered as he lifted another log on top of the one below. Before he knew it, there was a small log cabin constructed in the middle of the open area. It had four walls and a roof. The interior was nothing special. He made a singular bench inside to be able to sleep on.

It wasn't a 5-star hotel, but it would keep him alive.

He walked inside his small log cabin and lay down on his bench.

His eyes closed as the darkness of the night grew deeper.

I'm alive!

That was the first thought Christian had when he opened his eyes and sat up from his bench. He groaned as he stretched out his stiff muscles from sleeping on hard wood. It was better than nothing. The soft light of the new day was creeping in from the doorway. It was still a bit cold outside, as it still was dawn.

He walked himself over to the stream and splashed the cold water on his face to wake himself up more. Christian then walked back to the campsite he made surrounded by the forest. The place he would now call home. The divine axe, or more accurately the divine tool, he used yesterday was still propped up against the wall of the log cabin.

He picked it up and walked outside with it. The log cabin he constructed was right in the middle of the large clearing he created. This divine tool he had with him could be easily used to construct more things, though he was still getting used to it. The divine blessings given to him also allowed him to work at a superhuman pace.

He would not put it to waste.

Christian squeezed his eyes shut, and when he opened them up, the axe in his hand turned into a hoe. If you didn't guess it already, he was going to transform some of the area in front of the log cabin into crops. He got straight to work. The divine tool quickly prepared the soil properly and made it prepared for seeds.

He made three small rectangular-shaped areas to be made into crops. Christian experimented with the divine tool. He did not know what it was capable of, but he did know he was responsible for figuring it out on his own. Even if he looked dumb experimenting with it in the process.

Once he finished making the three areas for crops, he looked up at the sky, using his hand to shield his eyes from the sun. The sun was now high in the sky again like yesterday. It was probably the afternoon. He placed a hand on his stomach. The urge to eat or drink still had not hit him. Christian truly began to wonder if he needed to eat at all. He still wanted to eat regardless, as he wanted to know what food in this world tasted like.

Christian picked up his hoe and tried turning it into a packet of vegetable seeds. It didn't work. He decided to try something completely different. He walked over to one of his three crop areas. The soil underneath his feet was soft and ready to be used to grow vegetables. As he started to dig in certain areas, he thought about what kind of crops he wanted to grow in that area.

It might be an insane thing to do, but just maybe the divine tool would make them appear. After all, it was a tool given to him by the creator of the universe. He expected to wait months before proof of the seeds growing was there. Once he did this method for all three crops, he started chopping down more trees around him and using the wood to create a wooden fence around him.

He finished the wooden barricade around him just as it was turning evening.

Thank goodness for the Gods. Otherwise I do not think I would be alive to be able to do all this work. He placed the magic tool next to him in the log cabin as he climbed onto his bench and fell asleep for his second night in this new world.

He now had a wooden barricade around him to protect from unknown creatures and three small crops that would hopefully produce food for him to just enjoy. This peaceful life he was starting to enjoy even if it just started for him. If he managed to get his hands on a journal in this world and still be alive, he might write his own experiences in them.

He closed his eyes with a slight smile on his face despite the hard wood biting into his back.

Little did he know what he would run into the next day.
