Chapter 222 - Kagura and Ryuzen

Ersi and the Water Mage – Another Clash

Wolf Lodge Courtyard – The Air Grows Cold Again

The sun had already set, the city lights slowly flickered to life.

Ersi was practicing her fireballs in the courtyard when she suddenly felt it:

the heat vanished.

The air cooled.

The lanterns dimmed.

Tiny frost‑flowers appeared on the walls.

Ersi's eyes narrowed.

"Alright… now I'm really done with this."

The water in the well stirred.

Ripples ran across the surface, then it slowly rose into the air.

The water formed a shape.

Much clearer now, much more human than before.

The water mage appeared.

The Water Mage – Fully Revealed for the First Time

The figure formed from water slowly solidified.

Tall, slender, his movements flowed as if the water itself breathed.

His mask was blue, marked with silver waves.

His voice was cold, clear, sharp.

"Ersebeth. The fire witch. We meet again."

Ersi stepped forward, a small flame igniting in her palm.

"I've had enough of this ghost act. If you want something, say it. If you want to fight, come here. And if you just came to annoy me… you picked the wrong day."

The water mage slowly circled her.

"You are fierce. Too fierce. Fire always rushes. Water… never."

Ersi snorted.

"You said that already. And it's still boring."

The water mage stopped in front of her.

"Fire destroys. Water purifies. But both can kill. The only question is… who learns faster."

Ersi's eyes flared.

"Then teach me."

The First True Clash – Fire Meets Water

The water mage raised his hand.

Tiny droplets appeared in the air, merging into a single wave.

Ersi stepped forward, flame bursting from her palm.

The two elements collided.

Hissing.

Steam.

Light.

Sound.

Fire and water pushed against each other, and the air began to vibrate.

Ersi forced the flame forward.

The water mage pushed the wave back.

Steam wrapped around them, as if they stood in another world.

The water mage's voice filtered through the mist.

"You are fast. But still… predictable."

Ersi shouted:

"Fire is not predictable! Fire… lives!"

The flame suddenly surged and broke through the water wave.

The water mage stepped back.

For the first time.

The Water Mage Acknowledges Ersi – But Only for a Moment

The water mage lifted his hand, water gathering around him again.

"Interesting. Very interesting. The fire… evolves."

Ersi panted, but her eyes burned.

"This is nothing. If you really want to fight… then stop hiding behind water. Show me your face. The real one."

The water mage fell silent.

The water slowly calmed.

"When you are ready. My true face… is not for you. Not yet."

Ersi stepped forward.

"Come back! Don't run!"

The water mage slowly retreated, his body turning to water, then falling back into the well.

"The fire is not hot enough yet. But soon… it will be."

The water stilled.

The cold vanished.

Ersi was left alone.

Ersi Rages – And Noelle Arrives

Ersi slammed her fist against the edge of the well.

"Coward! They're all the same! The poison mage, the water mage, Valerius… they're all just playing games!"

Noelle slowly stepped toward her.

"Ersi… this isn't cowardice. It's strategy. The water mage tested you. And you… survived. More than that… you pushed him back."

Ersi lowered her head.

"But I didn't win."

Noelle smiled.

"This wasn't the fight yet. This was only the dance. The dance of water and fire. And you… danced well."

Ersi slowly looked up.

Her eyes still burned.

"Next time… I won't just dance."

The Water Mage Watches From Afar – And Is Pleased

On top of one of the city's water towers, the water mage stood.

Behind his mask, his eyes gleamed coldly.

"Ersebeth… you grow quickly. Too quickly."

Water slowly flowed around his feet.

"But fire… always consumes itself. And I… simply wait."

The water mage vanished.

The Fire Ignites

Ersi stood beside the well, still feeling the cold touch of water in her palm.

"Weak, huh? We'll see."

Fire flickered gently between her fingers.

The game had begun.

And Ersi was ready.

Kagura and Ryuzen – Their Third Encounter

Night at Wolf Lodge – Kagura Cannot Sleep

The inn had grown quiet.

The guests slept, the lanterns flickered faintly, and the wind whispered softly between the rooftops.

Kagura Cry sat in her room, her sword resting on her knees.

She wasn't training.

She wasn't practicing.

She simply… listened.

Her thoughts kept returning to Hiroshi's words:

"The island has fallen."

"Ryuzen survived."

"He is looking for you."

Kagura tightened her grip on the sword.

"Why me? Why exactly me?"

Then… she heard it.

A soft tap at the window.

Kagura lifted her head.

Something Moves on the Rooftops – A Familiar Shadow

Kagura silently opened the window and leapt onto the ledge.

Her movements were light as wind, silent as shadow.

Between the rooftops, a figure moved.

Fast.

Precise.

Familiar.

Kagura's heart beat faster.

"Ryuzen."

The man stopped at the edge of the neighboring roof and slowly turned toward her.

Moonlight glinted on his sword.

"You're fast. Still."

Kagura drew her own sword.

"What do you want from me? Why are you following me? Why did you say I'm the last?"

Ryuzen stepped closer.

"Because it's true. And because you must know the truth."

Kagura watched him with narrowed eyes.

"The island… really fell?"

Ryuzen nodded.

"Yes. And it didn't just fall… it was betrayed."

Kagura froze.

"Betrayed? By who?"

Ryuzen's voice was quiet.

"The masters. Our own masters. The teachings… rotted. The traditions… twisted. The island… destroyed itself."

Kagura clenched her fist.

"And I… where was I?"

Ryuzen stepped closer.

"Far away. And that is why you survived."

The Past Revealed – Ryuzen's Truth

Ryuzen slowly sat down on the edge of the roof.

"The masters split into two factions. One wanted to preserve the traditions. The other… wanted new power. Forbidden power."

Kagura stepped beside him.

"Forbidden… power?"

Ryuzen nodded.

"Yes. On the Island of Warrior Maidens, there was an ancient technique. A power that should never have been used. A power that… consumes its wielder."

Kagura's heart skipped a beat.

"And they… wanted that?"

"Yes. And when you left… the island lost its balance. The masters went to war. The students turned on each other. The island… burned."

Kagura lowered her head.

"And you… which side were you on?"

Ryuzen fell silent.

The silence was heavy.

"I… was on neither side. I… survived. And now… I'm looking for you."

Kagura lifted her head sharply.

"Why?"

Ryuzen slowly stood.

"Because you are the only one who still carries the island's teachings in their pure form. And because… I need you."

Kagura froze.

"For what?"

Ryuzen stepped closer.

His voice, for the first time, sounded… human.

"To stop me. If necessary."

The Third Meeting Ends – And a New Path Begins

Kagura stepped back.

"What are you talking about? Why would I need to stop you?"

Ryuzen slowly raised his hand.

In his palm, a small black light flickered.

"Because I… am no longer the same as I once was. The fall of the island… changed me. And if I cannot stop myself… then you must."

Kagura's eyes widened.

"Ryuzen…"

The man stepped back to the edge of the roof.

"Prepare yourself, Kagura Cry. Because the past… is returning. And you will be the only one who can face it."

In the next moment, he vanished.

As if he had never been there.

Kagura was left alone on the rooftop.

Her sword trembled in her hand.

"Ryuzen… what happened to you?"

Kagura's Path Grows Darker

Kagura returned to Wolf Lodge.

In the moonlight, her eyes darkened.

Now she knew:

Ryuzen was not an enemy.

But not a friend either.

He… was a warning.

And the past that wanted to swallow her whole.

And Kagura was ready to face it.
