Chapter 47 - Dangerous

The conversation was going as I had expected.

Throwing out Yinsen's name could be considered a risky move, but it merely served as a solid way to unsettle him; it wasn't something crazy like what I did with Hawkeye.

Honestly speaking, with my current abilities, it would be relatively easy to kidnap Pepper Potts, and there was no doubt I'd get a landslide from that.

But for now, I didn't want to get in too much trouble. My only aim was to plant the seeds of confusion in his mind.

I watched as he pulled out a pair of glasses after threatening me.

"Those won't tell you anything useful," I said.

"Let me be the judge of that," He said, not believing me.

Now that Fury had wiped all of my S.H.I.E.L.D. files, I was pretty much back to being a ghost. Stark, going through the whole internet and various private databases, wouldn't find anything.

Well, the worst he could find was the Marcus Alexander identity, but I had already discarded that.

He put them on, looking at me whilst most likely analysing several data panels appearing in his sight.

I sat still, not at all taking his five-second threat seriously. I was more interested in seeing if he'd be able to find anything out about me through whatever those glasses had.

His expression changed several times over the course of ten seconds.

"Huh," he said.

"Told you."

He lowered the glasses.

"No."

His tone had shifted entirely.

"You don't get to told-you-so me right now. You're gonna tell me right now how a person with no traceable history and apparently no last name knows the name of a man who died in a cave in Afghanistan that nobody other than a bunch of dead terrorists should've known about."

Honestly, I didn't really find Stark to be very threatening at the moment. Even with whatever suit he had right now, as long as we remained in a building in close-quarters-combat, I'd be able to tear him apart. And considering he wasn't currently wearing his suit, he was quite literally at my mercy right now, even if he didn't know it.

One spike to the neck would be plenty.

"Would you believe me if I said I saw it all in a movie?" I answered his question honestly.

"That's not funny."

To be fair, it wasn't supposed to be.

Tony's jaw tightened as he stared at me with a serious expression.

"I'd strongly suggest you take my question seriously. How do you know that name?"

I couldn't help but laugh slightly before raising my hands in the air.

"Ooh, scary! What, you gonna bring the suit in?"

"You think this is funny?

I didn't answer, instead opting to stand up as Tony stared at me.

I fixed my blazer, ready to leave the building.

My actions served as an answer in their own way, being that I wouldn't tell Stark how I knew what I knew.

Without doubt, Stark would pursue the matter; after all, he wasn't the kind of guy who could just let things be, especially after what I had just told him.

He would surely return home to spend three days and nights trying to find something on me, only to come up with nothing.

There was no way he'd ask Fury for help either, too much ego for that.

Fear existed in many different ways beyond simple terror. It was something I had been thinking over for a while.

The literal definition of fear was 'an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.'

So, if I created enough unease in Tony's mind to be registered as a threat, that would hopefully net me at least a trickle of FP, an amount enough to clear my quest.

As I walked away, Tony remained silent.

I made it through the dining hall, past the nearby Hellfire members who moved aside without being asked, and out the main entrance without looking back.

"Oh."

A window appeared before I had even managed to sit back in the car.

[Tony Stark feels unease regarding your existence and thinks of you as a threat! +5,000 FP]

[Iron Man 1/1]

I looked at the notification for a moment.

I had expected it to come, but certainly not so soon and certainly not such a large amount.

Five thousand from a single conversation without me having to do anything crazy.

I hadn't shown my hand to Tony in the slightest, no red eyes, no bones, no superhuman strength.

He was probably on his phone right now, pulling everything from everywhere to find even the smallest drop of information regarding me. Chances were that he'd find the fake identity sooner or later, but nothing more.

I looked out the window as Manhattan blurred past.

Four Avengers down.

Two remained.

Cap was already a work in progress, and even though he was a psycho unshakeable by normal means, there were ways to make him tick.

I remained uncertain of the other.

Despite that uncertainty, I still had plenty of time on my hands; eight months remained until May of 2012, when the Chitauri invasion would begin.

All I had to do was spook two individuals and grow a little stronger.

And after that, I'd give Loki a sufficient amount of PTSD.

Hey, nobody would judge me for traumatising a villain, right?
