Chapter 5 - A Glimpse of Hope

Lyra and Hades fled through Olympus hidden passages, descending into the Underworld.

They reached Hades palace, their heart beating fast from what they just witnessed.

" What have we done?" lyra asked Hades, feeling worried.

" You do not need to worry about anything." He replied her. calling Nina to take her to are bed chamber.

Lyra wanted to refuse and stay by his side but she couldn't define him, he had much to worry about and her staying wasn't going to help, so she followed Nina willingly to her bed chamber.

Night came and she hadn't heard a word from Hades, she was worried about him so she snuck out of her chamber into his room.

Hades collapsed onto his bed – a grand, black stone structure with velvet drapes.

She tiptoed to his bedside and decided to lie down beside him because she was too afraid to be alone.

Lyra felt Hades body twitching beside her and his muffled cry.

"What was he dreaming about?" She whispered to herself before she could register anything else, Hades jumped up in fear of what he saw, his heartbeat was beating in an un–particular rhythm, he was drenched in his own sweat.

" calm down, Hades." Lyra said, patting his back slowly.

" What are you doing here?" He said.

" I couldn't stay away, knowing you must be going through something and I was right." She said, " What did you see Hades, tell me."

Hades exhaled loudly before starting.

" I saw myself in Olympus again, watching in horror as my family and friends were consumed, not just petrified but also swallowed " He said. " poisedon was screaming in pain, Athena was losing her gift, Hera was dying over and over again, while Zeus stood over the box and laughed at our misery."

" lyra, it was terrifying and horrible, I need to get them out of there, I can't let them suffer." He confessed.

Lyra held him close as Hades clung to her, his heart racing with fear.

" Is that possible?" She asked. "Pandora's Box petrifies victims, not swallows them."

Hades buried his face in Lyra's hair.

" My nightmares are never wrong, this nightmare showed me the box's true evil, what Zeus might unleash on us if we don't stop him."

He pulled back slightly, his dark eyes intense.

" Lyra, I need you to promise me something." He said. " If I fall battling Zeus, will you take my place as ruler of the Underworld?"

Lyra's eyes grew even wider.

" Me, rule the Underworld, I can't, I won't." shaking my head firmly against it. " No, Hades, I'm just a mortal girl, ruling the Underworld is beyond my capabilities."I told him.

Hades' expression turned cold.

"Will you rather let my realm fall into chaos rather than try." He asked.

Lyra stood up, her voice rising slightly.

"That's not fair, Hades and you know it. You're asking me to take on a god's responsibility, what will other gods think when they hear of such, they will try to overpower me and they will win."

Hades also stood, his height towering over her.

"I'm asking you to save my home and the souls who depend on me, is that too much, I choose you because I believe you can do it, no god can take care of the souls that roam the Underworld, only you can."

The argument escalated until Hades snapped his fingers – Nyx , goddess of night and his loyal servant, appeared instantly.

"Nyx, escort Lyra to her own chambers, We will discuss this further when she has calmed down."

Nyx gently took Lyra's arm, leading her away despite her protests.

Hades watched them leave, his jaw clenched in frustration.

In another realm, Loki, Norse God of Mischief, stood in his dark, mystical library surrounded by ancient tomes and glowing runes.

Suddenly, his eyes widened as he sensed a disturbance in the cosmic balance.

Gods from other realms were missing, their powerful energies abruptly vanished.

Loki's curiosity was piqued.

" This could be entertaining or profitable." He whispered to himself.

Loki began researching the affected realm – the Greek Gods of Olympus was the main source of the disturbance.

" This feels like an opportunity to get my revenge on Olympus." He said.

After studying, Loki decided to pay them a visit but not yet, he needed the right time to strike when desperation was the only tune they were singing.

He would prepare carefully, anticipating either alliance or battle with the surviving gods.

Meanwhile, he sent his loyal messenger, Ravenna the Raven, to scout the Underworld and report when they were desperate enough.

In the Underworld Library, Hades sat amidst piles of dusty tomes, candles lit around him casting flickering shadows.

He had searched every spell book, every Greek text on magic and gods but found nothing to defeat Zeus or restore his family.

His eyes were sunken, his dark hair disheveled from constant stress.

He slammed another book shut – "Theogony: Gods' Births and Lives" by Hesiod and leaned back in his chair, exhausted.

Meanwhile, in lyra chambers, Lyra stood closely to the window, staring blankly at the garden.

She had barely eaten or spoken to anyone – not even Nyx or the other underworld spirits.

Grief over Michael's death still lingered, and her argument with Hades left her heart heavy.

Occasional tears fell silently down her cheeks.

She missed her old life, her family, and Michael but also the Hades she first met – not this stressed, angry version, she wanted everything to go back to normal but it couldn't.

Suddenly, a raven landed on her windowsill – Ravenna, Loki's messenger.

Lyra shooed her away, but Ravenna dropped a small parchment first.

Curiously, Lyra opened it – a message scrawled in elegant handwriting: "Hades isn't the only god who can help you, meet me in the Underworld gardens tonight and Come alone."

"Which other god was out there and can they really help, I needed to know, maybe this was our way out of this tragedy." she said .

Night came and lyra snuck out of her bedchamber to the Underworld garden.

A hooded man standing in the shadow, walked out and pushed his hood back – revealing mischievous green eyes and pale skin.

Loki, Norse God of Mischief, stood before Lyra with a charming smile.

" I have come from Asgard to offer my assistance," Loki said, his voice low and smooth. " Zeus' actions have disturbed balance across the realms and helping you and Hades will benefit everyone, including myself."

Lyra eyed him warily.

" What do you want in return, Loki?" She asked.

Loki chuckled.

" Your skepticism is wise, Lyra, I desire a small favor, one Hades might not even notice, His library contains a rare tome: "Magic of the Nine Worlds", I will need that book later after we defeat Zeus together."He said.

Lyra hesitated, unsure if she should trust Loki but his words sparked hope, maybe this god could save Hades' family and end his suffering.

Lyra nodded slightly.

'I will consider your offer, Loki but if you betray us, you will face Hades' wrath." She stated.

Loki smiled.

"I expect nothing less."

Loki vanished into darkness, leaving Lyra alone.

Back in her chambers, Lyra sat on her bed, lost in thought.

" Could Loki truly help Hades and Olympus? Was his promise worth the risk of trusting him?" She thought.

As she pondered those questions, a faint noise came from outside.

Lyra quickly feigned sleep, hoping Nyx wouldn't notice.

Nyx entered silently, but her eyes narrowed slightly – Lyra's blankets were rumpled, and her hair slightly disheveled.

Lyra pretended to stir in her sleep, hoping Nyx would leave but Nyx approached her bed, her voice soft but suspicious.

" My lady, are you unwell, you weren't in bed earlier, did you take a walk?" Nyx asked.

Lyra forced a sleepy tone.

"I went to the garden for some fresh breeze, then went straight back to bed." She told Nyx trying to throw her off her scent.

Nyx seemed unsure but nodded and left.

Lyra got up scanning to see if she had truly left, she exhaled, whispering to herself.

" That was close, I really hope Loki's help is worth the risk because I can't lose Hades." She said.
