Chapter 3 - Chapter Three

Elara's POV.

Father has a huge cart and it was driven by animals that were called horses. They are different from us; they are taller, and their fur is softer, finer and smoother. Running my hand through their fur feels like running my hand through water, I like it. Very much. But not as much as the moon.

Today, the moon is high up in the sky, and tonight it will hang low again, waiting for me to grow tall and give it a hug for giving us cool powers. But before that, today is a special day. It's a special day because I am going on one of their usual trips with Father and my elder brothers.

I am standing next to the horse I named "Star," because of the small tuft of white fur between his eyes. Star has black fur on the rest of his body, so the white tuft is such a bright opposite, it looked like a star, hence the name. I really think it suits him. It will be right to say I am standing under rather than next to Star as my head barely reached his underbelly. I am stroking the fur on his legs while my brothers, Edric and Cedric, the twins, load boxes of different sizes into the cart.

Cedric, the more playful one, threw a black box with gold vertices, which looks really sharp by the way directly at Edric's face. Edric catches at a distance that is mere inches from his face. He pulls the box from his face and drops it into the cart with a loud thud.

His face is cast in an angry scowl, and his jaw is clenched. Brief intro about my brothers: Cedric and Edric are twins and we are ten years apart, but they never act like eighteen year olds, Father says I am the more mature one, and they are more of an eight- year- old than me.

Edric has a scowl on his face, while Cedric only grins mischievously, clearly enjoying Edric's reaction.

"Don't you dare " Edric's voice is serious and grim

"Like you can do anything about it." Cedric's only mission is to annoy the life out of Edric.

And that had always been his mission. Father often joked that he was in the womb solely to annoy Edric, and Edric would nod and agree solemnly. Edric is the elder by only minutes, but he is still the older. He is serious and dependable. He is like a book; he has all the answers to every question.

Cedric, on the other hand, is the direct opposite; he always gets in some trouble or the other, and once I heard Father say he is the cause of his headaches.

"Try that again, and see if I will do anything about it." Edric's voice is a warning.

Cedric does all but heed that warning; instead, he picks up another box and throws it directly at his face, again.

The box stops in the air halfway to his face, but this time, Father's hand catches the box, not Edric.

"That's enough." Father's voice is grim, just like Edric's.

Cedric makes a snort sound, but he finally calms down. They load in the last of the boxes with no more drama.

Star neighs, brings his head low enough to my face, and gives my face a long, wet lick.

This is a part of horses I do not really like. His saliva is wet and sticky and I have to wash my face again, but I know that it means that it's his way of saying he likes me too.

"What's that? You think the same too?" I say, whispering into his huge ear. I mean his ear could cover half my face.

"Oi! You two, Star says you two are children." I shout at the two, waving my arms above my head at them.

They turn to me with scary similarity, same timing, same movement, same look in their eyes, brown eyes, honey brown in Cedric, and oak brown in Edric and the way their lips move is even the same.

"Aye? Isn't this our little princess?" Cedric replies to me first, and he is already walking up to my side, and without warning he already has me in his arms, lifting me up in the air, and spinning me around.

"Put me down! Put me down!" I scream with all my lungs, throwing my arms and legs around, trying frantically to get out of his arms.

"Only if you stop being cheeky." I hear Edric's voice, being cheeky himself..

It was annoying how they always band together against me, yet banter with each other to no end, it makes absolutely no sense.

I groan and let out a huff.

"Fine." I scoff.

Cedric keeps his word and sets me down gently onto the ground, and barely seconds after my feet touch the ground, I hug him, wrapping my hands around his waist, pressing my face into his shirt, and rubbing with fervour.

Cedric pulls me away from him, my hands still around his waist. I lift my head to look at him, and a cheeky smile spreads across my face.

"Now I don't have to wash my face again," I say through smile teeth.

Cedric's eyebrow drops, a look of confusion settling in his eyes.

"What do you mean?" He asks, his hands still on my shoulder.

I smile, drop my hands from across his waist, and pull his hands off my shoulder. Then I take several steps backwards. Cedric's eyes follow me every move. Slowly, while holding his gaze, I nudge my head towards Star, a smirk on my face.

It takes him a few seconds to realise, and when he does, his expression is priceless and definitely worth every second I spent terrified in the air.

He looks down at his shirt with absolute disgust, his lips turn down.

He looks up at me with an expression that asks the real question.

"Yup," I nod seriously, "it's really Star's saliva."

Now he looks like he is going to puke. I love it.

Edric's hand pulls my cheek abruptly, cutting short my entertainment.

I face him with an angry scowl.

"I thought you said you were not going to be cheeky." He says, still pulling my cheek.

"Bleh," I stick out my tongue, "you never said how long."
