Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Shouldn’t It Be the Snake King?

The (Azure Wolf King), now tightly constricted, felt a flash of panic. But he didn't back down at all. After that brief moment of alarm, he opened his jaws wide and viciously bit into the python's body — filling his mouth with snake blood.

The Azure Wolf King wasn't useless either; getting wrapped was merely a tactical misstep.

After taking such a savage bite, the giant python became furious. It opened its huge maw, revealing four glistening fangs. But it didn't bite down immediately. Instead, its body suddenly exerted tremendous force — the classic python killing method: constriction.

First crush the prey into pulp, then swallow it whole.

The Azure Wolf King's bones began to groan under the pressure. A miserable, pained howl burst from his throat. It hurt like hell.

Even Zhang Yang, watching from the shadows, felt his teeth ache just looking at it.

"If that were me being constricted, could I hold out?"

Zhang Yang sized up his own body and made a quick mental comparison.

The conclusion: he was definitely stronger than the Azure Wolf King. His bones were now tiger bones — no way they'd get crushed this quickly into such a miserable state.

But how long he could actually endure… that was unknown.

Hearing their king's agonized howls, the wolf pack exploded into fury.

How dare this thing attack their king — it was courting death!

And the snake swarm wasn't going to just stand there either. The moment the wolves moved, the snakes struck back.

A full-scale wolf-snake war erupted.

The Azure Wolf King was in agony and couldn't speak. He desperately wanted to order the pack to retreat.

After experiencing it firsthand, he now understood clearly:

These giant snakes were far beyond what the wolf pack could handle. They were too powerful.

Even he, the strongest wolf king, was about to die. How could the rest of the Azure Wolves possibly survive?

Even if they somehow won this group fight, it would be a pyrrhic victory — losing eight hundred to kill a thousand. Could the pack even continue to exist after that?

Unfortunately…

The Azure Wolf King no longer had the strength to give any commands. His breathing was shallow, mostly gasps. He felt death approaching.

Right at that moment, a somewhat out-of-place figure slipped into the wolf pack.

Zhang Yang's fur was different from the Azure Wolves'. While theirs had a bluish tint, his jungle wolf coat was a pale green — very distinctive.

But in the chaos of battle, neither side paid attention to such details.

Zhang Yang didn't attack the wolves. These would all be his subordinates in the future — if he could avoid killing them, he would.

The pythons, however, were a different story. He showed them no mercy.

With his size and attack power, killing ordinary pythons was easy. Maybe not one-shot kills, but a few bites were enough to snap their bodies in half.

Unlike earthworms, pythons couldn't regenerate severed parts. Once bisected, they could only wait to die.

"Ding! Killed python. Gained +800 evolution points."

Huh?

No level advantage, and still this much evolution value?

How many pythons were there here?

At least a hundred, right?

If they all died in his mouth…

Holy crap — that's 80,000 evolution points!

Zhang Yang instantly got excited. He could practically see the 80,000 points waving at him.

Sure enough, you have to go out and explore. The outside world is full of opportunities!

In a surge of excitement, Zhang Yang let out a fierce howl.

That howl carried the spirit of righteousness and self-sacrifice.

The meaning was clear: All Azure Wolves retreat immediately. Leave all these pythons to him.

Look at that — wasn't that the very picture of heroic loyalty? One wolf standing alone against an entire snake nest!

But… who the hell are you?

The Azure Wolves were all stunned.

They'd never seen this guy before. Where did he come from?

He was pretty big, sure, but… was his brain okay?

The chaotic battle continued.

Zhang Yang felt a bit awkward.

No one was listening to his command. This wouldn't do.

Every single one was evolution points — he'd feel heartache losing even one.

So Zhang Yang charged straight toward the snake king.

Any python that blocked his path was either slammed aside or bitten and flung away — bite, whip of the head, and the snake went flying. Quite stylish.

He had to save the Azure Wolf King. Only the Wolf King could lead the pack away and preserve all these precious evolution points.

In his dying moments, the Azure Wolf King heard Zhang Yang's howl. He very much approved of the order… but sadly, the wolves were too stubborn to listen.

When Zhang Yang finally reached the snake king, the snake king's cold vertical pupils fixed on him, its forked tongue flicking in and out constantly.

Zhang Yang had no time for a staring contest — he was here to save a wolf.

"I'm here to save you. Get the wolf pack out of here right now."

While saying this, Zhang Yang launched an attack on the snake king.

The Azure Wolf King nodded.

But did this newcomer really have the ability to rescue him? The Wolf King wasn't very confident.

The next moment, though, his confidence surged.

He suddenly felt the coils around his body loosen.

Then — freedom.

What happened?

Zhang Yang leaped high and clamped his jaws directly onto the snake king's head.

The "no jumping allowed" rule clearly didn't apply to him.

Just pounce and bite.

The snake king had also lunged to bite Zhang Yang, but Zhang Yang — rich in combat experience — twisted his head at lightning speed, counter-biting in one fluid motion.

Once he had the head in his mouth, it was time for some serious pulling and tearing.

The snake king, in pain, instinctively loosened its grip on the Azure Wolf King and tried to coil around Zhang Yang instead.

"GO!!"

Zhang Yang shouted with the snake head still in his mouth, voice muffled and unclear.

Now freed, the Azure Wolf King immediately let out a commanding howl. The next second, the entire Azure Wolf pack began retreating from the battlefield.

See that? One howl from the real Wolf King and everyone listens. Zhang Yang's passionate, heroic howl earlier had zero effect. That's the difference in status.

Seeing the wolves finally withdrawing, Zhang Yang gritted his teeth and unleashed his ultimate move.

He hadn't used it earlier because he was afraid of instantly killing the snake king — if the head died, the body might convulse and tighten even more instead of releasing.

But now — tremendous force erupted.

The snake head that was still struggling was suddenly crushed in Zhang Yang's jaws.

Like biting through a frozen ice cream bar — brutally snapped in half. Blood mixed with chunks of half a snake skull flooded into his mouth. The remaining half-head sprayed venomous blood all over Zhang Yang's face.

Many pythons had been rushing over to kill him.

But after witnessing this scene… they stopped.

Snakes are cold-blooded creatures. They don't have the same pack loyalty as wolves.

With the snake king dead, there was no longer any unifying force. Expecting them to risk their lives for revenge? Forget it.

The fact that they didn't immediately start fighting each other for the position of new snake king was already polite enough.

"Ding! Killed python. Gained +1000 evolution points."

Just… python?

Shouldn't it be Snake King?

Zhang Yang was a bit puzzled, but the evolution value was decent — 200 more than a regular python.

The problem was… all the other pythons were fleeing now. That made Zhang Yang quite unhappy.

What now? Chase them into the crevice?
