Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: You Came Looking for This Yourself

However, Zhang Yang didn't have such extraordinary talent. After he was full, he simply couldn't eat any more.

"Big brother, you're not eating anymore?" Look at this wolf pup Qing—he actually still has the conscience to invite Zhang Yang to keep eating.

"No, you eat. Eat it all." "Awesome! If I can eat like this every day, I'll grow up really fast."

At that moment, Zhang Yang realized—this world really isn't a normal one. But then again, isn't it precisely because it's abnormal that it's so much fun?

The next day. Bright sunshine. This wolf pack of just over thirty individuals welcomed a new day—a pretty good one, actually. Because yesterday they had all eaten to their hearts' content. It couldn't be said that everyone's strength had increased, but most of them had improved somewhat.

"I think… we can expand our territory a bit," the alpha wolf said to Zhang Yang before the hunt began. Whether or not to expand still required Zhang Yang's approval.

Although the position of alpha was still nominally held by Wolf Qing's father, Zhang Yang's opinion carried tremendous weight. Because Zhang Yang was the main combat power.

"Sure," Zhang Yang replied. He welcomed more prey—the more the better.

He wasn't in a hurry to use his evolution points to raise his attributes. Right now he was already strong enough. Evolution points must be kept in reserve—whether for emergencies or to exchange for lifespan, they were the most critical resource. Only when there were truly extras left over would it be worth using them to boost stats.

"Great." The alpha wolf nodded happily.

And so the pleasant days continued.

Every day Zhang Yang would personally take down the prey, while the other jungle wolves handled the miscellaneous tasks. It wasn't that the wolves were lazy—this arrangement was simply the most efficient. Zhang Yang could handle it easily on his own. If the wolves tried to hunt in a pack, their efficiency would be far, far lower than his. They lacked one-hit-kill capability and could only wear prey down slowly through group attacks.

Three days later, Zhang Yang could clearly feel that prey in the nearby area was gradually becoming scarce. There weren't infinite animals to begin with.

At the same time, the little tiger was having the exact same realization. He hadn't found food for two whole days. He was extremely hungry. And he had figured out why food had become so scarce—it was all because of that pack of jungle wolves.

People say one mountain cannot hold two tigers. Right now, this little tiger felt his mountain couldn't hold this wolf pack either.

"No. Even if I can't kill them all, I have to drive them out." The little tiger couldn't stand it anymore. Hunger was tormenting him. He decided to drive the jungle wolves out of his territory.

He thought it, and he acted on it.

Under the blazing midday sun, the little tiger appeared near the wolf den with an arrogant air. He was, after all, the overlord of this area—he had every right to be proud.

But very soon he displayed the typical behavior of a carnivore. He saw a huge amount of food. The elderly jungle wolves were constantly carrying carcasses back into the den.

Hunger made the little tiger's eyes glow green.

Hesitate? No need at all.

He had originally come to drive the wolves away. First take their food, then drive them out—perfectly logical, right?

The little tiger had somewhat lost his reason. He charged straight into the wolf den.

Most of the wolves left behind in the den were the old, weak, and young. Those with any real ability had gone out hunting with Zhang Yang. Expecting the elderly and pups to stop the tiger? Not a chance.

The wolves who had been transporting food did step forward. They bared their teeth at anyone who dared steal their food.

But that was all they could do—bare their teeth.

The little tiger didn't take a single healthy adult jungle wolf seriously at all. There wasn't even a proper fight. After just a few swipes, he pinned the wolf to the ground and mauled it.

A tiger's strength is terrifying—especially this one, who was stronger than most tigers. In power, physique, and agility, he was simply not comparable to a jungle wolf.

What he feared was the wolf pack, not any single wolf.

Things could still have been de-escalated, but unfortunately the little tiger got cocky and—snap—bit the healthy adult wolf to death.

The moment Wolf Qing saw this, his eyes turned blood-red. He wanted to charge forward and fight the tiger to the death.

"Don't be reckless! Go—go find your big brother!"

Everyone in the den knew Wolf Qing had become Zhang Yang's little brother and had even been given a pretty cool name by him.

Although the old wolves no longer had much physical strength, they still had experience and judgment. Even if all of them rushed the tiger right now, they couldn't stop him. To deal with him, they had to wait for the healthy adults to return.

"I…" "Go! Take the little ones with you—hurry!"

The elderly wolf's gaze was resolute.

Wolf Qing jolted. Right… he could choose to be brave, but the pups needed to survive.

In the end, Wolf Qing took four little pups and ran out of the den, leaving eight elderly wolves behind to guard it.

The old wolves bared their teeth. Earlier they hadn't provoked the tiger because they were thinking of Wolf Qing and the young ones. Now that the little ones were gone… it was time for them to bare their fangs.

They were old. They couldn't do much for the pack anymore. But if they could use their last bit of life to leave even a few wounds on that tiger, it would be a worthy death.

"You dare touch our food? Then you'll have to get past us first."

A tragic battle began. The fight was completely one-sided—bloody, brutal, filled with wolf howls and tiger roars.

But the sounds quickly died down. How could elderly wolves possibly be a match for the little tiger?

They all died. They died heroically.

"Big brother! Dad! Come back quick—" Wolf Qing ran while howling, his young voice full of sorrow, accompanied by the four little pups.

"What happened? Why are you guys out here?" Some of the hunting wolves spotted Wolf Qing.

"Hurry—take me to Dad and Big Brother! Tiger—there's a tiger in the den!"

"Wait here." The adult wolf didn't bring Wolf Qing along—it would slow them down too much.

Wolf Qing didn't have to wait long. Soon came the sound of countless paws thundering across the ground—the sound of the jungle wolves sprinting at full speed.

"Back to the den!"

The alpha wolf saw Wolf Qing, gave the command, and nearly twenty adult wolves, together with Wolf Qing and the pups, raced back toward the wolf den.

Inside the den, blood flowed like rivers. The little tiger was gorging himself. He hadn't had a proper meal like this in two days.

Truth be told, he was actually quite envious of the wolf pack. He never expected these wolves to be such skilled hunters. If he could tame them and make them hunt exclusively for him… that would be perfect.

"Little tiger… this is you who came looking for it yourself."

Zhang Yang could feel the thick grief permeating the entire wolf pack. He felt it too. Old grudges and new hatred combined—today, he and this little tiger were destined to settle things once and for all.
