Michael and Marcus came the following weekend.
Roman had the estate prepared before they arrived — not formally, not in any obvious way, but the guest rooms were ready, fresh towels had been set out, and the kitchen had been stocked properly. Elena had handled most of it quietly before leaving for the weekend with the same efficiency she applied to everything else in Roman's life.
Jay opened the door when they arrived.
Marcus walked in first carrying an overnight bag over one shoulder. He stopped immediately after stepping into the entrance hall and looked up slowly at the high ceilings and the chandelier and the staircase curving toward the second floor.
He said nothing for nearly four seconds.
Then he looked at Jay.
"Jay."
"I know," Jay said.
"This is insane."
"I know."
"He actually lives here."
"Every day."
Marcus turned in another slow circle like he still needed confirmation.
