Chapter 9 - 8. OULU SAGA: ODIN'S TEMPLE

John's gauntlets started to heat up making the air around him to turn to vapor. Erick, on the other hand, had his axes charging up in lightning. Large strikes of lightning were blasted from the axe's edge. Thee two charged at each other with smirks of mad men.

Brill and his men were seated in a small clearing drinking water. Nickeleye was panting like a dog while the others were on edge, looking here and there. Brill was busy cleaning his musket's nozzle. He's eyes were more focused on his surroundings than his own musket. A sudden rustle came from some bushes behind him. Everyone was instantly alert but did not move. Heck, no one even flinched besides Nickeleye. Brill raised the musket to make it look like he was inspecting his work only to shoot a rabbit that jumped out of said bushes. He then got up and placed the musket back in its place. He did a few hand signals and three from the squad took off ahead of them. The others got up, Nickeleye was still lagging in the squad. At least he was trying, which is what matters. Brill stood in front of them and made a signal for number three. This Nickeleye understood. It was drilled into him that previous night. It meant that their squad was to move three times faster than before. Nickeleye had a look of devastation to him but no one cared. As soon as the signal came, the team dashed through the forest as if they were part of it.

Obviously, Nickeleye was not keeping up. He arrived on site Thirty seconds later after the others had arrived and been sent in for scouting. Brill wore an expressionless face but Nickeleye felt like he had disappointed him. Brill told Nickeleye that it was his job to cover their backs and so Nickeleye had walk in front of him. He was felling tense but a sense of responsibility guided him to the front. Nickeleye tread cautiously as it gradually got dark. The torches were lit down the hall so at least that eased his worries. They met up with the others the deeper they went who were guiding them to avoid the traps. They walked in a single file line matching each others steps. This was genuinely a comfortable dungeon crawl that it made it even harder to relax. This was proven so when Nickeleye tripped a trap with his foot. The others actually gave a sigh. A loud 'clang' sound echoed across the whole hallway. This was followed by the sound of moving rusted gears. Finally a steadily rising rumbling sound that revealed a boulder rolling down the hallway from ahead of them. All but Nickeleye had a grin of malevolence to them. The pirates gave way to Brill while taking a knee. Then Brill walked to the front with a hint of excitement. He brandished his muskets and took aim. Blast after blast followed. The boulder started to slow down as it slowly got incased in thick ice. As soon as it was moving at a slow enough pace, Brill stopped and moved to the back once more. The other pirates got up and brandished their sabers. They jumped at the boulder and smashed it to a pile of ice cubes on the floor. They cheered at their accomplishment. . Nickeleye got to apologizing but the others talked him out of it." No worries man," said one of them.

" Yeah, it was getting boring anyway," said another.

" My beard was growing out from the wait," said another fluffing his bushy beard.

" It's not a dungeon crawl without the danger," said another." Right First mate Brill?"

Brill was more fixed at the direction the boulder came from. Brill noticed up ahead that their were two doors. One had an oasis-like room and the other had a pile of gold in it. The captain had zoned out the others and approached it. Between the doors was an altar with Odin's name above it. The altar also had text in Norse saying," For those of einherjar blood, this information is trivial but common knowledge. Which these is not a Jotun deity?"

The first door was titled Aegir and the second was titled Loki. Brill said," Lord Aegir is the Jotun deity of the sea. He represents the sea in all it represents. His wife Ran is associated with capturing drowning people. Their nine daughters are all Jotuns too and are associated with waves."

" Loki is the Norse god of lies and deceit. He was known to work together with Utgard-Loki in many occasions. His father was Odin and was a brother to Thor, and in some myths Njoror [ The others flinched ]. He is more than likely the answer," said Nickeleye walking into the Loki door.

The others all shouted trying to stop him," YOU FOOL, LOKI WAS PART FROST GIANT!"

As soon as that was said, a golden barrier appeared at the entrance trapping Nickeleye in the room. He tried to go back but it was to no avail. Brill tried to blast the door open but his frost bullets had no effect on the door. A sudden shaking started to happen in the room. The piles of gold started to shift and a large slab of the wall started to move up. Brill told Nickeleye to get to cover. He immediately jumped behind a pile of gold overlooking the opening wall. From within it came a small giant. Just above five meters tall. A Norse message writing appeared on the barrier and Brill read it aloud. he said," For my false son, ye shall prove ye worth by vanquishing the enemy of Asgard."

Nickeleye was visibly shaken by this. He was shaking at the sight of the giant. The giant started to look around the room but Nickeleye kept close to his back. Brill knew what the kid was planning but knew that this kid was underestimating his opponent. He wanted to warn him but kept quiet because he wanted him to learn. He told the others," No one give him advice. If he is to travel with us, a Jotun who has completely lost his mind should not be a problem for him."

The team understood his intentions and all shut up and watched. Nickeleye approached the being from behind and jumped up aiming for sneak attack. The attack was never going to work because of one single fact. The Jotun moved on instinct and simply attacked any living thing that moved. Hence, it was drawing out Nickeleye by pretending to not notice him only to turn around and hit him with his fists hard enough to send him flying across the room. He hit the wall and spat out blood from the impact before falling back to his feet. He was barely standing as the Jotun looked at him and grinned.
