'The Feeding Birds of Prey didn't see through the ear flies' method of attack, nor did their intelligence suddenly spike. It was a fluke—the water pressure destroyed their hearing, which is why the birdsong attack no longer works!'
By diving and surfacing rapidly, the Feeding Birds of Prey could keep their feathers from getting wet, but they couldn't prevent the changes in water pressure.
The water would force its way into the ear canals of the Feeding Birds of Prey, penetrating their fragile inner ear structures. Due to the changes in water pressure, their inner ears suffered severe damage.
Even if they could still hear, the residual seawater would cause them extreme discomfort and distort any sounds.
The intense discomfort in their ears was why these irritable Feeding Birds of Prey kept scratching themselves. The hearing damage also affected their movement, which was why they were staggering around.
