I sit beside window and look down at the city. As I am in my own world look outside. Then my phone ring. As I see it, it is an unknow number. Should I pick or not.
"Hello! Who is speaking?" I say while waiting for respond.
There's a pause just long enough to make my stomach tighten.
Then finally, a low voice speaks, steady and familiar.
"It's me. Emrys."
I blink, sitting up straighter. "Oh… but how did you get my number."
"I figured," he says, a soft note of amusement in his voice. "Sorry for that without your concerns."
"No, it's okay," I say quickly, suddenly more alert. "Is everything alright?"
"Yeah," he reply. "I just… wanted to check on you.Make sure you're okay."
At the sound of his voice, my grip on the phone relaxes slightly. It's strange, really how someone I've barely known can feel like the only thing solid in my life right now.
"I'm fine," I say quietly. "Just… a little overwhelmed. But the I am perfect. Thank you."
"You don't have to keep thanking me," he says. "You needed help. That's it."
I turn my eyes back to the window, my voice softening. "Not everyone would've helped."
He doesn't say anything to that. I hear faint background noise on his end wind, maybe distant engines. Maybe he's outside. Maybe on his bike.
Then, after a moment, he adds, "I meant what I said earlier. This isn't charity. It's a second chance. For both of you."
I swallow. "Still feels weird to have a stranger care."
"You won't feel that way forever," he says. "I'm not going anywhere."
My chest tightens at his words teady, calm, certain.
"Thank you," I whisper, even if he told me not to say it again.
There's a short pause. Then he asks, "Can I bring dinner tonight, if you want?"
I let out a small laugh. "Really, Emrys."
"Yes," he says. "So, what do you and your friend went. I will bring for you."
I express as thinking what to have in dinner. "Umm, I don't know. You can bring any think as you want."
As I was talking to him. I heard a knock on the door and Saoirse voice "Can I come in, Leora."
"Who is that?" He asks after hearing it.
