Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: The Gate That Should Not Open

The man believed in one thing: strength.

He did not have a name because names meant nothing to him.

A name would not make his fists stronger.

A name would not make him react faster.

A name would not make his bones harder.

Only fighting could do that.

The man learned to fight soon as he learned to stand up.

People in villages remembered him as a storm that came and went without warning.

Cities talked about him in an respectful way.

Wherever there were people who fought, like soldiers or mercenaries he would go there.

He would fight them.

He did not fight for money.

He did not fight to be famous.

He did not fight because he was proud.

He fought to get better.

Every fight was a lesson for him.

Every time he got hurt he learned something

He studied the people he fought like a student studies books.

He remembered how they moved, what they would do next and what they were afraid of.

The man was not interested in people.

He liked people because they were more fun to fight.

In the end they all lost to him.

Over again.

Bones would break blood would spill on the ground and dust would rise up and settle.

When it was all over the man would stand alone breathing hard with calm eyes and a disappointed heart.

No one could really beat him.

This made him feel empty inside like something was missing.

This feeling followed him everywhere like a shadow.

The One Who Matched Him

One day the man went to a city with stone walls and red flags.

The city had a fighting arena where people from all over came to test themselves.

The man entered the arena without telling anyone who he was.

He did not wear any armor. He did not have a title.

He just used his body and his fighting skills.

The crowd laughed when they saw him. They stopped laughing after his first fight.

Then they stopped laughing after his fight and his third fight.

The man beat experts who used weapons with his hands.

He beat warriors who wore armor with powerful strikes.

He moved quickly and smoothly like flowing water.

Finally the boss of the arena sent out their fighter.

This fighter was a calm and quiet man.

His eyes did not show any fear.

When the two men faced each other something felt different.

The air felt heavy.

Their first exchange of blows shook the arena.

Fists collided kicks were. Every move was met with a perfect countermove.

Minutes passed, sweat. Muscles screamed in pain.

For the time in years the man smiled.

This was it this was the fight he had been searching for.

They fought until the sun began to set in the sky.

Neither man fell neither man gave up.

The crowd was silent watching something they did not fully understand.

Then suddenly the champion stepped back.

"This is not the place " he said quietly.

Before the man could react, the champion. Walked away disappearing through the arena gate.

There was no winner, no loser, a hunger that was not satisfied.

That night the man could not sleep.

The Journey Begins

The man left the city at dawn.

He did not ask any questions he just followed his instinct.

He traveled through roads, frozen mountains and burning deserts.

Every city he went to had stories about fighters, forbidden lands and places where power was not just for humans.

People whispered to him about these things.

"There are gates beyond the cities " they said.

"There are places that have been sealed for a time " they said.

"There are realms where strength's a curse " they said.

Most people were afraid of these stories.

The man was drawn to them.

Months passed.

One night in a forgotten land filled with ruins he found what he was looking for.

A gate.

The Shadow Gate

It stood alone in a valley surrounded by tall black pillars and a massive stone door with symbols that hurt the eyes.

The air around it was cold and heavy like the world was holding its breath.

Chains made of glowing metal wrapped around the gate each one pulsing with a light as if trying to hold something back.

There were warning signs everywhere.

The ground was cracked, no plants. Even insects stayed away.

Any sane person would have turned back.

The man stepped forward his heart beating faster with excitement, not fear.

If there was power sealed here then it was meant to be challenged.

He put his hand on the chains.

Pain shot through his body.

Visions flooded his mind: cities burning shadows fighting voices screaming in rage and laughter.

He stumbled,. He did not let go.

Instead he gripped the chains tighter.

"Show me " he whispered.

The chains broke apart.

The Six Are Freed

The gate opened with a scream.

Darkness poured out like a living thing.

The sky cracked thunder roared without clouds. The ground shook violently.

Six presences came out of the gate.

They did not walk they claimed the land.

Six Demon Lords, rulers who had been sealed away before history was written.

Each one had an aura that bent reality.

One was cruel and full of fire.

One was poisonous and graceful.

One was mad and full of blades.

One was silent and heavy like mountains.

One whispered lies and illusions.

One remained unseen watching.

Their voices overlapped, echoing from everywhere.

"Freedom " they said.

"At last " they said.

"The seal is broken " they said.

"A human did this " they said.

Their attention turned to the man.

He stood still unmoving as shadows crawled across his skin.

Of fear he felt power.

The Transformation

Dark energy came out of the gate drawn to the man like iron to a magnet.

It wrapped around his body entered his blood and invaded his soul.

He screamed,. He did not fall.

His skin turned dark like living smoke.

His eyes burned with a light.

His shadow detached from the ground. Moved on its own.

The demons watched with interest.

"This one survives," one of them said.

"Good " another one replied.

"Let him suffer " they said.

The power did not kill him it changed him.

When the energy settled the man stood transformed.

He was no longer fully human.

He was Shadow.

A World Changed Forever

The Demon Lords disappeared into the world each claiming a domain spreading chaos, building armies and twisting fighters into monsters.

Before they left one voice echoed in the mans mind:

"You opened the gate " it said.

"You will face us " it said.

"Grow stronger Shadow... Or be crushed " it said.

Silence returned to the valley.

The gate collapsed into dust.

The man looked at his hands, dark and powerful unfamiliar.

His heartbeat sounded distant.

His reflection in a broken stone showed something

Not a man, not a demon. Something in between.

He clenched his fists.

If this power was a curse he would master it.

If demons ruled the world he would challenge them.

If strength was the path he would walk it to the end.

Without a name without fear with shadow, as his companion.

So the journey truly began.
