Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Traits

"What the hell is happening to me, system?!"

I yelled louder than I intended, but thankfully the walls here are soundproof.

[Don't be so dramatic, host—it's just your traits manifesting.]

"Traits…" Oh right! Traits are the hidden status stats in Great Moon.

"So I actually have traits! Hey great and powerful system—you can show me hidden statuses, can't you?" I gave it my best shot at puppy dog eyes.

[Yes, host—but only if you say: "System, you're the absolute best of the best—I'd practically beg to marry you!"]

"Don't push your luck." I shot back with a glare.

[Fine, fine.]

Traits:

- Never Lie: You cannot tell a single lie. Even the smallest fib will trigger intense pain—ranging from sharp discomfort for minor untruths to fatal agony for major deceptions.

- Bravery: You cannot flee from any fight. Any provocation will compel you to stand your ground and fight without mercy.

- Peak in Anything: Whatever you attempt, you will perform it perfectly—achieving the absolute best possible result anyone could attain. You cannot develop a "unique" style of your own, but you will master every skill to its highest form.

- Random: Each week, on a completely unpredictable day, you will be afflicted by a random debuff. Effects range from temporary muteness or deafness to physically transforming into a child or elderly person.

"What kind of traits are these? Some are amazing, but the others… why can't I lie? And what do you mean I get random debuffs every single week?!"

[Host, the first trait was already with you before you were summoned. The rest aren't from me—they're entirely yours.]

Huh… so that trait existed before I came here? Oh right—you mean it's my karma for all those lies I told?

"Karma really is real, then…"

I let out a heavy sigh, but then my eyes landed on "Peak in Anything"—and a wide smile spread across my face.

"Okay, sure, some are bad… but this? This is a total game-changer! Does that mean even if I tried to dance, I'd be perfect at it? Even something as simple as cooking rice?"

[Yes, host—everything you do will be flawless. But… did you forget something important?]

"What is it now?"

[It's already midnight.]

Midnight?!

I rushed to the window and peered out—sure enough, the sky was dark and dotted with stars. The assessment is tomorrow.

"Oh shit! Oh no—I have to sleep right now! System, you have to wake me up—do NOT let me be late!"

I practically dove onto the bed and curled up as fast as I could. But just as I was about to close my eyes, I mumbled to the system:

"Hey… I was joking earlier, okay? Don't be mad at me. And please—wake me extra early tomorrow? Pretty please?"

I flashed those puppy eyes one more time—I knew the system was just as petty as I was, after all.
